The entire film was shot during the early months of the Covid-19 quarantine. The Welkers used the few neighbors and family members they had contact with during this time as actors in the film. Face masks can be seen worn in the background of some public shots.
The film was shot during 1 month of J. Matthew Welker's paternity leave from work.
The backpacks worn by Camden and Irie throughout the film are recycled Cambodian cement bags, made by and given to them by their friends at CEMENT6. They and J. Matthew are regularly seen selling their pieces side by side at various markets around Nashville.
Each member of the Gerard Family is named after a female character from the movie "Empire Records".
The entire idea for the movie came when the Welker Family took a historical visit to the Carnton Cemetery (seen at the end of the film) and witnessed the sunset through the trees overlooking the gravestones. The startling image immediately gave them their idea for the finale. The rest of the script was built around that set piece.
