Almost eleven months have gone by since we heard that Julie Bowen – who played the character Claire Dunphy on 250 episodes of the ABC sitcom Modern Family – had signed on to star in the coming-of-age Satanic Panic thriller series Hysteria!, which is set up at the Peacock streaming service. Emjay Anthony (Physical), Chiara Aurelia (Cruel Summer), Kezii Curtis (Charm City Kings), Nikki Hahn (Magnum P.I.), and Anna Camp of the Pitch Perfect films joined the show soon after Bowen. Then genre icon Bruce Campbell signed on to play small town police chief Dandridge. Things have been quiet for a while, but now Deadline has revealed the names of several more Hysteria! cast members. They are Garret Dillahunt (The Last House on the Left remake), Nolan North (Pretty Little Liars), Elijah Richardson (Fantasy Football), Milly Shapiro (Hereditary), Allison Scagliotti (Warehouse 13), and Jessica Treska (Alex & Me). Mehmet Akif Büyükatalay’s suspense drama “Hysteria” offers a timely look at Germany’s diverse West Asian community and the subtle racism and hypocrisy that often permeates liberal discourse about immigrants and foreign cultures.
“Hysteria” centers on a provocative film being shot by a Turkish-German director about racist arson attacks on German migrant residences in the 1990s. When a Quran goes up in flames during the shoot, the Arab extras on set are outraged, resulting in a set fraught with tension. Caught in the crossfire, production intern Elif, played by Devrim Lingnau (“The Empress”), finds herself increasingly drawn into a whirlwind of shame and suspicion.

Büyükatalay, who won the Berlinale’s Best First Feature Award in 2019 for his drama “Oray,” which likewise explores themes of Muslim culture in Germany, is among seven film professionals selected as part of this year’s Face to Face with German Films talent showcase campaign.

Iconic bands Journey and Def Leppard are back together again for the summer.
Beginning in July, the two bands will hit the North American roads for a summer stadium tour. They’re scheduled to start in St. Louis on July 6 and end in Denver on September 8.
Joining them will be the Steve Miller Band, Cheap Trick and Heart.
The summer tour will be a reunion of sorts, as this will not be the first the two bands share the stage. In 2006 and 2018, Journey and Def Leppard toured in North America together.
“We are thrilled to be back on the road in 2024 with so many good friends as part of this tour,” Journey said on their website. “No matter which city you come to this will be an amazing night of music!”

Don’t stop believin’ in the hysteria.
Megaplatinum rock stalwarts Def Leppard and Journey are gearing up to hit the road for a North American summer stadium tour starting July 6 in St. Louis. The 23-show jaunt runs through September 8 in Denver and will feature fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steve Miller and his band on the bulk of the dates, with Cheap Trick or Heart on the others.
The trek will hit Citi Field in metro New York on August 7 and SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on August 25, both featuring Miller. See the full itinerary below.
The two headliners have toured together over the decades, but this is their first co-starring stadium affair. Def Leppard hit the huge U.S. and Canadian venues in 2022 for a Covid-delayed tour with Mötley Crüe in 2022.
San Francisco-based Journey has moved more than 49 million albums in the U.S. alone, paced by their 15 million-selling 1988 Greatest Hits.

It’s an interesting month ahead on Hulu, as the streamer rolls out some of the series it’s been keeping in its back pocket for the holiday season.
On December 15, the first season of Such Brave Girls will arrive. The sitcom follows a dysfunctional family – and we mean dysfunctional! – that includes real-life sisters Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson. British comedian Sadler has previously written for The News Quiz, Hypothetical, and Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable, but this is her first big TV project. “Everything we joke about in the show is from a place of lived experience,” she told Funny Women. “I wish I could say this is a heart-warming show about overcoming trauma, but that would be a lie. It’s about three toxic, damaged egomaniacs manipulating the world and each other for their own personal gain, vengeance and glory…just like in Little Women.” Sounds good!

Six weeks into the writers strike, the early returns on summer studio films have been some of the best since Covid brought the exhibition business to a screeching halt. But if SAG-AFTRA members trade lines of dialogue for picket lines beginning July 1, the business might well look like pandemic redux.
The domestic box office is just getting back on its feet, nearing $4 billion for the year and coursing 30% ahead of the same January-to-early June period a year ago. Theatrical release dates have again become prized commodities worth millions of dollars in revenue and the grease for triggering movies’ downstream revenues. And theatrical has regained a spotlight stolen by streamers during the Covid shutdown.
But what happens to the lineup of summer and fall films and their release slots, film and TV production starts and carefully calibrated Emmy campaigns if there are no actors to promote their films and make new ones?...

Bruce Campbell is no stranger to dealing with the supernatural, so it’s no surprise that Variety has reported that he’s joined the cast of Hysteria!, Peacock’s satanic panic series.
Per the official description, “When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the ‘Satanic Panic’ of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported ‘supernatural activity’ triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.” Sounds… interesting. Bruce Campbell will play Chief Dandridge in Hysteria!, who is described as “a small-town police chief whose understanding of his community is put to the test after a disturbing series of murders, disappearances, and unexplained phenomena.”

Def Leppard’s one-armed drummer Rick Allen was attacked Monday by an apparent stranger outside the Four Seasons Hotel in Fort Lauderdale Beach, Fl, with police saying Allen suffered a head injury after a teenager charged at the unsuspecting drummer and knocked him backwards onto the ground.
Max Edward Hartley, 19, an Ohio resident visiting Florida and reportedly on spring break, was arrested and charged with two counts of battery, four counts of criminal mischief and abusing an elderly or disabled adult.
According to a Fort Lauderdale Police report, the 59-year-old Allen was smoking a cigarette outside the hotel when Hartley, who’d been hiding behind a pole, charged toward Allen “at a full run” and knocked him backwards to the ground. Allen struck his head on the pavement in the fall.

Def Leppard Announce Album with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Share Re-Imagined “Animal”: Stream
Def Leppard have teamed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for the collaborative album Drastic Symphonies, arriving May 19th. A newly re-imagined orchestral version of “Animal” can be streamed now.
The collection features 15 orchestral re-workings of some of Def Leppard’s most iconic tracks, as well as a few deep cuts from their catalog. Rather than performing live alongside the orchestra, a la Metallica’s S&m, Drastic Symphonies is an ambitious studio project, combining specific audio from the original master tapes of the songs, fresh guitar/vocal overdubs, and symphonic arrangements recorded by the Rpo at Abbey Road studios.
As heard on the new version of “Animal,” the results are far from “an orchestra plonked over our previous recordings,” as guitarist Phil Collen put it. At times, you can hear Joe Elliott duetting with his younger self, and the new orchestral mix is a completely different experience than the classic Hysteria track.

An “overwhelming majority” of staff members at Crooked Media, the progressive media company behind Pod Save America, are seeking to unionize with the Writers Guild of America East, the guild said on Monday.
The bargaining unit is comprised of 55 Crooked Media employees who are producers, writers, designers, editors, engineers and staff. In a letter to management, the unit said one of the union’s goals is to ensure that the working conditions at Crooked Media — which struck a major deal with SiriusXM, received an investment from George Soros’ Soros Fund Management and hired its first CEO in the last year — are not negatively impacted by these outside interventions.
Some of those “degradations,” as the union letter described it, have resulted in high turnover and low morale at the media company. Other goals for the union include prioritizing the hiring and advancement of staffers of color and increasing transparency on the...

When “Animaniacs” returns with all-new episodes Nov. 20 on Hulu, a key ingredient of the original animated series will also return: orchestral music by Steve and Julie Bernstein, two of the series’ primary composers from its 1993-98 run.
Five of the show’s eight Daytime Emmy Awards were won by the “Animaniacs” music team, including the Bernsteins, who have spent most of their careers in Warner Bros. animation, from “Tiny Toons” and “Taz-Mania” to “Pinky and the Brain” and “Histeria!”
And while their work brings a sonic consistency to Warner brothers Yakko (voiced by Rob Paulsen) and Wakko (Jess Harnell), and Warner sister Dot (Tress MacNeille) — as well as world-domination-seeking Pinky (Paulsen) and the Brain (Maurice Lamarche) — what’s unusual is the presence of 30 to 40 musicians on every score.

Seven new musical legends joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Brooklyn on March 29: The Cure, Def Leppard, Janet Jackson, Stevie Nicks, Radiohead, Roxy Music and The Zombies. That recorded 2019 ceremony is now airing on HBO tonight (April 27) and will continue to be available on the premium network’s on-demand listings for months to come.
Five of those artists performed at the event, but not Janet Jackson and Radiohead. She was reportedly upset over HBO airing “Leaving Neverland,” a hard-hitting documentary about her brother Michael Jackson, and backed out of singing that week (although she was there to accept the induction trophy). Several Radiohead members had indicated their apathy for the selection, so Ed O’Brien and Philip Selway were the only ones attending. Other recent inductees who refused to perform: Dire Straits (2018), N.W.A. (2016), Kiss (2014), Guns N’ Roses (2012), Genesis (2010), Abba (2010) and Madonna (2008).

The Tribeca Film Festival kicks off on Wednesday with a slate of movies from up-and-coming filmmakers and established directors that tackle hot-button issues such as gun violence, homophobia, and gender discrimination.
The annual celebration of film was originally founded by Robert De Niro and producer Jane Rosenthal to encourage people to return to a corner of Manhattan that was still reeling from the 9/11 attacks. Well, downtown is largely rebuilt, but the festival is still going strong, with a particular emphasis on inclusion and representation. Of the more than 100 features that will debut at this edition of Tribeca, 40% are directed by women, 29% by people of color and 13% by Lgbtq filmmakers.
Now in its 18th year, Tribeca has grown to encompass television series, shorts, gaming, and virtual reality. But it’s the indie movies that provide the biggest sizzle. Here’s a look at nine acquisition titles that could have buyers circling.
