Mr. Brent is serving as chairman of the Ducheau County Dog Show. He acknowledges that Lavinia's dog King Alphonse has an obedience problem. She faces competition from rival Evelyn Carson's (Cathleen Cordell) dog Coco de Paris. Tammy's playful dog Delilah hits it off with King who is lovesick when out of her sight. Lavinia unsuccessfully lines up other dogs for King's attention. At the dog show Tammy tells Lavinia that her only shot to have her dog obey is to command him in "river talk". Lavinia risks her high society image in front of her friends, but will it pay off?
As the series progressed, Tammy's character diminished with less and less importance. Her screen time was reduced upon the introduction of Cletus' character with his schemes and attempts to romance Gloria. As such, the screen time for Gloria's character steadily increased. The main focus, however, was established early on as being Lavinia's character, and in whole, the series should have been more appropriately titled "Lavinia".
