“Act Your Age” earns another win for Alyson Fouse and Bounce TV.
The sitcom starring Kym Whitley, Tisha Campbell, and Yvette Nicole Brown opened to an audience of 2.14 million total viewers with its two-episode back-to-back premiere on March 4 on Bounce TV, according to figures from Nielsen. Thus, making it the most-watched half-hour series launch in Bounce history.
The initial airing was also pushed with a special presentation on Bounce’s sister network, Ion.
“It’s the storytelling. It’s wonderful and I think there needs to be something said about how it really well represents black women in America today. That’s a real breath of fresh air,” said executive producer and David Hudson. “It’s fun, it’s funny, it’s engaging, it’s reflective. I think it has real broad appeal for a lot of women, men as well.”
Hudson adds: “Straight off the bat as we started...

Back in 1993 writer and director Rusty Cundieff burst upon the scene with his hysterical film satirizing hip-hop, Fear of a Black Hat, which has now achieved cult status and he followed up two years later with equally popular urban horror film spoof Tales from the Hood. Since then he's been very busy comedy television director involved with such shows as The Dave Chappelle Show and The Wanda Sykes Show and directing TV episodes for commercial and cable networks. Now after a long absence Cundieff has finally returned to feature film making with the TV One movie White Water starring Larenz Tate, Sharon Leal, Barry Shabaka Henley and Amir and Amari O’Neil which the network will...

Will Smith probably didn’t know it at the time, but he was helping to develop a future Oscar-winning screenwriter while headlining The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
Writer John Ridley — who won his first Academy Award on Sunday for adapting 12 Years of Slave — credits his long career as a TV comedy writer for helping him transition successfully to the big screen. Ridley, whose small screen credits include Fresh Prince, Martin, The John Larroquette Show and The Wanda Sykes Show, drew upon Solomon Northup’s autobiography to write the screenplay for the Steve McQueen-directed movie that won best picture Sunday.

For women, breaking into comedy is a tough enough nut to crack without the chauvinistic "women aren't funny" comments. Not only is it not true, but with a male-dominated writer's field in Hollywood (73 percent of the WGA's film writers are men) it's only too clear that if women aren't funny onscreen it's probably because the only funny thing they had to do in the script was fall down and go boom boom.
The widely accepted paradigm in movies (not to mention TV) is having an out-of-shape or mildly attractive but funny husband and his hot, not-as-funny wife. And it's getting stale, baby. In order for a woman to go against that grain takes massive ovaries, the ability to generate her own material, and absolutely no fear of looking stupid.

Chicago – Wanda Sykes wants you to know that she still has a mind and a mouth and she’s not afraid to use either. The Emmy Award-winning comedienne known for her work on “The Wanda Sykes Show,” “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” as well as several HBO specials is back on the road after a year that has seen much in the way of personal and professional advances.
After coming out publicly following an anti-Proposition 8 rally in California, Sykes has unleashed an even greater acidity to her already irreverent tongue. The comic recently caught up with HollywoodChicago.com to discuss the accomplishment in producing one’s own talk show, her experience as one of television’s foremost female writers, and why comedy just may be paving the path for equality.

Deadline Hollywood’s Nellie Andreeva is reporting that The Wanda Sykes Show is being canceled by Fox after just one season!
Writes Nellie: The late-night talk show started off strong but tumbled in the ratings as the season went on and fell below the performance of predecessor MadTV in the Saturday 11 Pm hour. Fox has options for the late-night Saturday slot. It has been actively developing sketch comedies this pilot season and ordered two pilots, one written by and starring Dana Carvey and Spike Feresten, with another, from Jamie Foxx and MadTV creators Fax Bahr and Adam Small.
I’d be more outraged if I’d watched it more than just a few times. It’s hard to change your Saturday night viewing habits and if I’ve been out and about, I like to come home and watch SNL. I just don’t think Wanda’s show created enough buzz-worthy moments.

Erykah Badu's "Window Seat" music video slash strip tease has been causing a stir in the debate on decency and artistry, but that doesn't mean we can't laugh about it. Ask Wanda Sykes. The comedienne made her own version of the clip for "The Wanda Sykes Show," redubbed "Middle Seat." Just wait at least for the rhyming scheme for "pee." Badu's video earned her a disorderly conduct charge after the clip caught on -- which comes with a $500 fine -- and at the very least, the discussion has people, perhaps, interested too in her new music. On the heels of controversy surrounding her "Window Seat" video, Erykah Badu appeared on "The Wanda Sykes Show" and said people have misinterpreted the clip. She denied accusation that she tries to insult the memory of John F. Kennedy by appearing naked near the spot where the 35th President of the United States was assassinated.
"My point was grossly misunderstood all over America. JFK is one of my heroes, one of the nation's heroes," she explained. "John F. Kennedy was a revolutionary; he was not afraid to butt heads with America, and I was not afraid to show America my butt-naked truth."
Wanda Sykes couldn't agree more with the latter part of the Grammy-winning singer's statement, saying she also "wasn't afraid to show her badus" in public. Later on, Wanda offered her own taped parody of the video, in which Wanda takes a tumble on a sidewalk while trying to...

As 2009 comes to a close, we take a look back at some of the people and events that made this the Best. Lesbian. Decade. Ever. in pop culture.
Luckily for all of us, there was far more information to have mentioned from the last ten years than we could have included in this brief survey. That's why our lists for each year are not intended to be exhaustive, but are instead snapshots of different memorable moments that included the representation of lesbians and bisexual women in film, television, music, literature, comics, sports and the Internet since the year 2000.

Stand-up comic and actress Wanda Sykes recently unveiled her vision of a Saturday night talk show. Is it a keeper or should she stick to The New Adventures of Old Christine?
The Wanda Sykes Show is a late night talk show that airs once a week. It's hosted by Sykes and her trademark biting wit to a monologue, skits, and interviews. Comedian Keith Robinson co-stars as her sidekick.
The show debuted on November 7th to a 2.2 household rating. According to Variety, that placed the Wanda Sykes premiere 16% higher than the average of MADtv a year earlier (1.9/4) and double the performance of Talk Show with Spike Feresten from last winter (1.1/2).
The first episode was also in part competing against the highest-rated episode of Saturday Night Live of the season.

Allow me to begin my discussion of Saturday (Nov. 7) night's premiere of Fox's "The Wanda Sykes Show" with a caveat: It's completely unfair to critique a talk show on the basis of any one episode, especially its first episode. I know this fact, but in the past six months, I've provided this sort of initial evaluation (sometimes calling them reviews, sometimes not) for Jimmy Fallon, Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno, so if I didn't do the same for Wanda Sykes, I'm sure she'd be offended. [Well, she probably wouldn't actually be offended. Not by me allowing her time to find...

One of the high points on last year's Lgbt Roller Coaster Ride of Terror was Wanda Sykes coming out as gay and married. It's not every day our community gets an intelligent, hilarious, high-profile woman of color as a spokesperson — especially one that isn't afraid pull punches.

This fall it looks like there will be a new crop of late night talk shows set to premiere similar to the year when The Orlando Jones Show launched on FX, or when Magic Johnson launched his talk show titled The Magic Hour and when the Keenan Ivory Wayans Show (Hosted by Wayans) and Vibe Magazine’s late night talk show (Hosted by comedian Chris Spencer then comedian Sinbad) all aired at the same time in 1998.
Well, this year it looks like there is a new crop of comics set to launch a new late night talker in the fall. First up is the George Lopez show titled Lopez Tonight, set to be broadcast on TBS with a launch date of Nov.
