Well, it's not a new concept to take old B movies and redub them with different dialogue, it's just not always easy to make it actually funny. Intercutting scenes from separate films into the same storyline makes it more confusing, and the performances of the voice actors is just lackluster and boring. Find yourself some old Mystery Science Theater shows instead.

This bizarre and strange series takes old public domain footage and provides voice overs completely changing the narratives. With peculiar editing, and a standard cast of voice actors (including Allison Brie), I thought I'd like this more than I did. Its obviously very experimental, but I felt they didn't challenge things as much as they could have. What was pitched as a unique new take on old footage with meaningful interesting storylines ended up feeling contrived and rather much like a film students final art project.

This is not funny. At all. There are so many better things out there that make this look like a toddler made it. Go watch MST3K, RiffTrax, Incognito Cinema Warriors, or the Mads. This is not worth your time. I regret the time it stole from me.

Showtime has had nothing of interest since Homeland and Billions. There are so many stale old series and movies on ST, that I'm not surprised Cinema Toast appealed to them since anything new was sorely lacking. If I wanted to watch old movies I'd tune into TCM. At least TCM is not dubbed and their movies are interesting, and some are funny, unlike Cinema Toast. As far as I'm concerned, Cinema Toast is toast, and so is Showtime.

Nothing wildly experimental here, but the pleasant tradition of reworking dialogs and editing of past reels, with a post MTV freedom. From "What's up tiger lily" to "Dead men don't wear plaids", or the brilliant offering from France "la classe américaine", the genre has been well trodden.
But the choices made here make these episodes a worthwhile addition, it is not overtly parodic or satirical, it does not fish for laughs, but rather offers an offbeat game of hide and seek for the cinephiles, or just for the late night insomniac maniacal TV viewer like me, across familiar images, weirdly unfamiliar messages.
The closest offering one could parallel it to is the wonderful "documentary now".
To make it sweeter, there's a who's'who voice over cast, Armisen, Offerman, Stolz, Aubrey Plaza, Matthew Gray Gubler, colmann domingo, fineman, melons, and more.
It's a wonderful world meets news from the world, from suddenly i ripped off last summer to ed wood's Karens and night of the living Karls, from inspired by true events to decided by false possibilities and yes, Cars finally meet Herbie.
Bus as is said in episode 9, "i don't want to insert myself in their narrative."
If you like movies, you'll love this. If you're the occasional cinema goer, with no movies older than this this millenium under your belt, you might get bored. Your choice, ladies and gentlemen, and if you don't know who's Herbie, then "frankly, i don't give a damn, my dear".
