She is Love definitely holds a remarkably unique style, but one that fails to emotionally grab the audience.

"She is Love definitely holds a remarkably unique style, but one that fails to emotionally grab the audience.

Haley Bennett and Sam Riley share amazing chemistry, Marisa Abela brings some fun into the film, and the cast's improvisation skills are admirable. However, the extreme close-ups, shaky cam, abrupt cuts, and chaotic editing make it a frustrating viewing. Whenever a scene is able to break through the screen and reach the hearts of everyone watching, a creative/technical decision comes to remove all emotion attached.

Not for the general moviegoer."

A slice of some people's lives.
Maverick196215 January 2024
I only came to this movie as I recently became a fan of Haley Bennett through other movies, particularly the re-make of The Magnificent Seven and Hillbilly Elergy.

I found it to be something of an improvised drama/documentary of three people who could certainly really exist.

Idris, (Sam Riley) appears to live in this hotel by the sea, with Marisa Abela, his girlfriend when out of the blue, his ex wife (Haley Bennett) turns up to stay. He has not seen her for ten years and the scene unfolds in an uncomfortable way for Abela, who quietly gets the hump over their previous relationship taking off again, as I'm sure probably happens to people.

I found the chemistry between Sam and Haley really fascinating and Marisa responding, very real. Very improvisational for the most part, it shows what good actors can do with a flimsy script. Kept me watching.

A Boring and Uninspired Romantic Drama
FilmFanatic20236 February 2023
In "She Is Love," director Jamie Adams explores the relationship between estranged exes Patricia (Haley Bennett) and Idris (Sam Riley) in a largely improvisational style. Unfortunately, the dialogue drones on and the characters lack chemistry, making it difficult to care about their reconnection. The portrayal of Patricia never quite reaches the level of loveable haplessness, and the majority of the film follows the two awkwardly trying to avoid each other and revisiting their past. The emotions and drama feel unearned, and the film ultimately falls flat with a maudlin and boring climax. Despite the talent of Bennett and Riley, this flimsy material fails to deliver.

so relatable a painful deja vu

Instantly charmed with each of the characters, found myself searching for something to make me like one over the other and I couldn't. This is the dream our hearts long for when we long for a chance to explain and forgive. The actors are stunning. Each of them dives deep into the scenario taking us on a roller coaster of emotions. Love is definitely the rose breaking through the spring ground after a long winter. I appreciate the scenery, the physical appearance of actors, and the script. Sometimes delivery of the script is to scripted. Here the chemistry between actors and their exceptional delivery makes for a very realistic experience.

Slow-burn unexpected love story
bohdanascheinostova24 May 2023
"She Is Love" offers an intimate look into the meeting of two people, who have been estranged for over a decade, eventhough deep down they still care for each other. The plot evolves slowly, but stadily as we dive more and more into the relationship between Idris and Patricia. This film is a nice depiction of how poeple can change and evolve over time and simultaneously stay the same with the same needs and dreams. To some this film could seem flat or a bit draggy, but I think that that way it is more realistic and more believable. Also Sam Riley and Haley Bennet have great chemistry and their performance together is amazing.

I actually really loved this

Rented this recently on Amazon Prime then actually bought it because I needed it in my life. The improvised style is unique and strangely fascinating. I think you see the actors kind of being themselves, with a plot. You need to see it more than once to fully get it.. Sam, Haley and Marisa make it work and plus points for creative filmmaking during covid! For anyone who's studied acting, you'd enjoy this far more than a casual viewer.

Its criminal that there wasn't more publicity around it and you have to go looking for it, maybe that niche factor makes is more cool-- a hidden gem. For anyone who ever loved and lost and acted stupid, it'll speak to you. Nice to see Haley Bennett again after Cyrano and looking forward now to Marisa Abela in the upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic. And Sam Riley really needs to be in more stuff because he's brilliant.👏
