A plot at its finest!
h_chucky8315 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The plot by Aethelhelm to start a war with all its events happening in one episode resulting a roller coaster of emotions leaving you at the edge of your seat is just pure perfection.

One of the finest and hardest episodes to watch, very sad and stressful. And that what has always made TLK one of the best shows ever on TV.

It looks like things are going to get crazy "literally, if you watched the last scene " from now on.

Excellent

A great continuation from episode four. The last kingdom is firing on all cylinders and nobody is safe. The brutality of greedy men has consequences on both sides of the war. It's hard to watch beloved characters meet their fates but I can't take my eyes off the screen. If season five continues to pull no punches then all of us fans are in for a treat.

Mind still reeling
annalavender-4633822 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was a complete game changer for the series.

Four words: Osferth. Didn't. Deserve. That.

Finan and Osferth have been my top two favorite characters since their introductions (however I have not read the book series. Lovers of the source material, forgive me). I feel like this episode took them BOTH out with one emotional stone.

Seeing Osferth desperately fighting off two men at once, and Finan trapped with the impossible choice to run to the aid of his brother-in-arms or Ingrith, his wife and mother to his child; then blaming himself for the outcome, was difficult to watch.

The attack on young Uhtred...where do I begin? Only for him to be roughed up while trying to help the townspeople when he himself could barely walk from his wounds. His screams during both events was devastating, as was the look on his face as the people were slaughtered before him.

Aelflaed's death made me audibly go WTF.

Aethelhelm's strangled (no pun intended) cries for his daughter, having only himself to blame, and his descent into what can only be described as pure madness was downright terrifying. I cannot think of any other time where I have been more frightened of a characters capabilities for evil.

Edward having sex with his mistress right after discovering that Aelflaed was dead (and his son was bitterly mourning his mother) was such a low move. Even Aethelflaed had a bit of empathy for Aethelred during his injury and ultimate demise.

Mind is still reeling from this episode, and as painful as it is to watch, might warrant a rewatch in the near future.

R. I. P Baby Monk.... Uhtred's group will never be the same without you.

Let the rage flow through you, Aethelhelm
chrisboringlife25 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was something else, Aethelhelm's plan backfires when he causes the death of his own daughter.

Uthred just made aware will be a loose cannon, seeking revenge.

The Last Kingdom went from a first season, with mediocre acting to a masterpiece that thrill on every episode.

I always disliked Aethelhelm, as the writes intent to make you do so, but at the end of this episode, I was like.. snap out of it, let the rage flow through you, Aethelhelm, play your role into making this season as epic as possible.

Such a strong season, although I am not finished watching, I devote all my spare time into doing so.

Excellent play, a dark and epicly written season, they have made watching this serie the highlight of my year, and I thank the cast, producers and writers from the bottom of my heart.

Amazing series but..
harris-ryan-10123 April 2022
Love this show. One of the best series I've watched in some time. Amazing character development and as the seasons progressed; bigger budget with better action and scenery.

My only major complaint with this season and the time jump, is that characters like Uhtred didn't age a day. Some characters have aged by 10 years and he remains as young as when we met him in the first season.

I believe he would be somewhere in his 60's at this point in the story. I'm not saying they needed to go full throttle with the makeup, but some minor aging would have made a bit of sense.

I am willing to stretch my imagination for other holes; like their ability to basically teleport and be in various parts of the country within a matter of hours or less.

If you can get past little things like that, man is it an epic series.

Decent episode
saschkeane15 July 2022
The acting at the end by the Aethelhem character was cringy. Seemed like he was crying then started laughing. Episode should have ended with him gutting himself as he is one of the most annoying characters I have ever seen.

This episode is truly a masterpiece, from beginning to end.

Warning: Spoilers
The chain of cause and effect displayed throughout this episode can be studied in universities.

And besides, Osferth... Osferth. The entire scene of the attack is one of the most heartbreaking and engaging I've ever seen, and it is built perfectly.

Would've gave it a 9 but
chantejade7 August 2022
Would've gave it a 9 but the ending was comical & not in a good way Aethelhelm character has been irritating from the get go & the fact the characters always seem to bump into each other in the middle of any forest in the country, makes it confusing sometimes Good episode otherwise.

Not true to Cornwell
richard-3550625 March 2022
Story line suddenly becomes incoherent.

Not a worthy offering in Cornwell's name.

Adding insult to injury with a scene discussing marriage in 1950's not 9th century terms.
