We all know how horrific wars are and how high is the price regular people have to pay. In this case it's Kiril, a young artist who is torn between his love for a woman, his love for the art of painting and the sense of duty. I liked the fact that the movie didn't lose sight of the moral story in the mindst of the war scenes.

This movie was gently directed and the actors had room to breathe between the dramatic moments. I also found the pacing quite good, never dragging on for too long.

If you are looking for a war movie with a gentle touch without the Hollywood razzle dazzle, give this gem a go.

After watching this movie 3 times, i COME BACK TO SAY THAT THIS FILM IS A WORK OF ART..... The viewer can watch and build a relationship with the characters and feel the interaction. . The actors did an impressive job. The story is well related and interesting. The story line is not only interesting, but is accurately historically.

The sad message at the end makes it worth viewing and after watching the whole movie, the viewer has that complete indulgence.

The movie is a very true depiction of the horrible eastern war conflict.

The character of the film is almost documentary, as it only deals with very ordinary people and especially women dragged into the war with or without their consent, whether they like it or not. It's a great story, the main character is an artist who has no choice but to join his fellows in the defensive war, while he has to leave his sweetheart hoping to join her again later in Kiev. Like in any war, things don't work out as they should. The interesting thing is that both sides are given ample scope, and the host inviting his friends for dinner emphatically hopes for peace and friendship and cooperation across all borders, while the third great male character is a Russian general who keeps drinking vodka with no sense of judgement as to where his intoxication is leading him. It's a very human drama, and the concluding scene is a triumph of humanity. Until then, you will have to keep biting your finger nails.
