- Lieutenant Albert Draycott discovers one of his fellow soldiers and closest friends is concealing a secret from him which could cause damage to his marriage back home. Albert has to decide who his real enemy is - The Germans or William.
- England - 1914. War has just broken out in Europe. We start with a serene countryside setting. A vast blue lake is enveloped by huge mountain ranges and it is tranquil and calm. Sat looking at this is Grace Draycott (Olivia Lewis-Brown) - wife to Second Lieutenant Albert Draycott - and she addresses the camera. We do not know who she is talking to when the film begins.
Two years later, The Somme. Private William Mawlbury (Aaron Fraiser) of the Buffs Regiment has just come from sentry duty to find his best friend and superior, Second Lieutenant Albert Draycott (Adam Grindley) has received a letter from his wife back home that she has given birth to their baby. Elated by the news, William toasts the successful arrival of a baby into the world with some whiskey.
Wondering if he has any post, William asks Albert to search for any mail. Finding some discarded on the floor, William discovers that not only is the letter from Albert's wife Grace, but that the child she has given birth to is in fact his. Albert snatches the letter and reads to find out the child is not his. Enraged, Albert fires into a tirade and before William can give a definite answer, the whistle blows for the men to go over the top. Before William can go, Albert aims his pistol at William and the camera pulls away.
The film closes with a voice over of Commanding Officer (Thomas Gardner) reporting that a soldier has died in the service of their country. Grace is sat at the same spot crying as we cut back to the trench and the screen fades out to black.
