Really liked this girls with guns series

Warning: Spoilers
The ending was pretty lit like the scene where Canaan and Alphard face off in a "great train robbery" style. As much as Alphard is Canaan's enemy, I actually ship them both as a couple lol. Unfortunately that didn't happen in which I honestly wish Aphard didn't kill herself and have to shot her arm to get away from Canaan. Yeah I wouldn't recommend this anime to anyone who might find that scene extremely sensitive.

Good on Lesley Tesh and Shelley Calene-Black for doing the English Dub voices of them because they just were literal badasses lol!!

Good girls with guns anime, I'm glad they added the right amount of comedy added to it, especially for a dark anime like this one. So if you're not squeamish, like action as well as a sprinkle of comedy, totally watch this anime!!!!

Exciting girls-with-guns anime
Tweekums8 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Photographer Maria Osawa is sent to Shanghai along with reporter Minoru Minorikawa to cover an upcoming anti-terrorism conference; on her first day in the city Maria is attacked unknown assassins. She is saved by a grey haired girl named Canaan; a girl she has met before! It turns out Canaan's rival, Alphard, it planning to attack the conference along with her colleagues Liang Qi and Cummings. Alphard and her Snake organisation plan to use the UA synthetic virus to attack the conference. One would have expected this attack to be at the end of the series but it takes place fairly early on and then Canaan, Maria and a few others head to the village where a version of UA was tested and here they must confront Alphard and her allies once again.

This was an enjoyable thirteen episode series with plenty of action with little time being wasted on exposition… thankfully this didn't lead to any real confusion. Canaan is a great action-girl and the way her synesthesia helped her fighting was interesting. The villains were suitably fun; Liang Qi was amusingly over the top and clearly insane and Alphard was the opposite being fairly calm and collected; these two villains weren't totally unsympathetic and was surprised to find myself caring about them more than most TV baddies. There is plenty of action throughout the series and this is well animated and pretty exciting. For the most part this is a fairly serious series but there are some good laughs to be had; most of these are provided Yun Yun; a girl who ends up with the group. Not all of the questions are resolved and there is a degree of openness to the ending but if you don't mind that I recommend this series.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

Solid Action Thriller
k-gordo1724 April 2023
Canaan is an action thriller where three main characters converge in China as their previous baggage with each other become intertwined with an overarching terrorist plot.

What grabbed me immediately were the visuals and the unique setting of China, which is rarely seen in anime. The action is spectacularly animated creating white knuckle tension, a sense of stakes, and a feeling of brutality. While their are fantastical elements involved, the action still plays out similar to what you would see in a Jason Bourne or James Bond movie. The character animation is colorful, crisp, and full of complexion.

What is interesting is that the audience has to piece together the history the three characters have with each other as the show goes along. This story is a quasi sequel to events taken place in a visual novel to my understanding. Therefore, the show immediately launches into the plot assuming you know the characters already. Thankfully the show provides enough tidbits of information of the characters' past that I could follow along with the story even though I had not seen the visual novel. It was refreshing to see a show with next to no exposition dead-weight at the beginning and gets straight into the action. It makes you pay close attention so you don't miss crucial information.

While this show does not reach top tier in any of its elements, this is still a solid action anime that I believe is an underrated gem. I'm glad I stumbled onto this one by chance.
