Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper wants to get in with Gen Z.
Cooper and her fiancé, Ace Entertainment CEO Matt Kaplan, have co-founded Trending, a media company that says it’s “committed to elevating today’s voices and crafting tomorrow’s stories for an independent, resourceful and inclusive generation.”
The new venture will produce scripted and unscripted content, podcasts, digital media, live events, merch, and more, it says. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Kaplan–a former Awesomeness exec–will lead financing, production, and distribution, and Cooper will lead audience engagement and franchising.
Trending will serve as the parent company for both Call Her Daddy (which has a $60+ million distribution deal with Spotify and is the platform’s No. 1 podcast for women) and Ace Entertainment.
“Every day I interact with countless young people who push the boundaries behind the stereotypes and misconceptions we often hear about Gen Z,” Cooper said in a statement.

Short-form video has transformed the music industry, and YouTube is helping its brand partners keep up with all the change. The leading video platform has announced a pair of new ad products: Gen Z Music and Trending Music On Shorts.
One of the two new solutions is already available. Gen Z Music allows brands to stay in front of 18-to-24-year-olds as those coveted consumers listen to their favorite tracks across multiple formats. Using AI, YouTube will identify the songs Gen Z is obsessed with and package those hits together for advertisers.
A blog post attributed to the VP of Product Management at YouTube Ads, Nicky Rettke, identified Korean chart-toppers Blackpink as one group whose videos can be included in Gen Z Music bundles. “According to research agency TalkShoppe, viewers report splitting their viewing time across many different video formats — with Gen Z (18-24) spending no more than 22% of their viewing time watching one format,...

[Editor’s note: The following story contains light spoilers for “Sharp Stick.”]
There’s been a lot of panic lately about whether or not Gen Z is having enough sex. Based on a few studies that first appeared in 2016, the handwringing headlines include BuzzFeed declaring Gen Z Is Having Less Sex Than Previous Generations, Newsweek asking What’s Driving Gen Z’s Aversion to Sex?, and The Guardian dubbing it Gen Z’s Sex Recession.
Gen Z encompasses those born between 1996 and 2012, making the youngest Zoomers 10 and the oldest 26 years old, which also means that the evolving reasons for this supposed downturn are mostly still conjecture. The Guardian suggests it’s a good thing, with a growing awareness around consent leading to a “quality over quantity” attitude. One study found a correlation between reduced alcohol consumption and reduced casual sex. Others have blamed helicopter parents.
As the unofficial documentarian of Millennial sexuality, especially as it pertained to young women with her hit HBO show “Girls,...
