Low Budget flick that really hits home
seanevansSmash4 June 2012
Before watching this film I was very skeptical, a lot of low budget films really do disappoint, bad acting, no real plot-line, nothing to keep the viewer hooked, but I thought id give this film the benefit of the doubt. After viewing it I sat back and thought wow, a low budget film that doesn't actually suck, Rick Crawford is Irish born so naturally the accent comes easy enough to him, the other cast I know for a fact weren't all Irish so their accents seemed a bit forced and un natural. Apart from that I thought the film was superb, Rick Crawford plays a great part supported by 2 industry Powerhouses in the form of Keith David ( There's Something About Mary) and James Cosmo (Troy, Braveheart). The action and fighting scenes are gritty, the storyline doesn't drop off, its simplistic and easy to watch and the film plays out at a much higher standard than the budget would suggest. I really enjoyed this film personally and I've re-watched it since as I liked it that much. A must buy for action junkies or crime fans. A really well done film and a very promising opening film from Actor Rick Crawford. 10/10 for me purely because of its exceeding my expectations of what a low budget flick should be.

Say what about ya to my little friend

Warning: Spoilers
Despite a promising first half No Saints for Sinners runs out of steam in the final half hour. The film tells the story of a member of the IRA (Mickey) who goes on the run(ending up in Los Angeles) after shooting one of his comrades while on a mission to retrieve some stolen drugs. Mickey is disillusioned with the movement for becoming involved solely in criminality (unlike the former days of both criminality and fighting the British). Like a lot of criminals his character is a paradox. He appears to have a conscious but it is wrapped up in his own sense of right. The man he shoots (Mercer) has no such compunction.

The movie also has a certain inevitability about it - falling in with his new girlfriends seedy brother he gets sucked into helping the brother out of a predicament involving - you guessed it - drugs. As the story unfolds there is good character development and the story takes a predictable but believable arc. When the attempt is made to sell the narcotics to a Chinese buyer the film unravels as the scene is played with semi comedy mixed with violence. Then the inevitability kicks in as Mickeys past catches up with him.

The direction is OK for such a low budget effort - if you really want to see bad camera work watch A Horrible Way to Die - believe me No Saints for Sinners was not that bad. The lead actor was born in Belfast- his accent and that of the Mercer character are wholly authentic.

I'M NOT A USER, I JUST TEST THE PRODUCT BEFORE I DEAL IT.

Warning: Spoilers
This is an Irish crime story that takes place mostly in L.A. After trying to be a nice thug, Mickey (Rick Crawford) kills his partner in crime. Being wanted by Irish criminals, Mickey leaves to L.A. for the glamorous life as a bar tender. Nina (Kate Tomlinson) is a waitress and his girlfriend. Unfortunately Nina has a brother Jimmy (Collin Sutton) who is a user/drug dealer who owes the wrong people money.

Mickey agrees to help out Jimmy because Nina may be threatened. At this point the movie moves from bad to worse as a series of mistakes string together various cliché lines and a host of new unsavory characters.

Unless you like to hear the Irish accent, there is nothing to see here.

F-bomb, brief sex, no nudity.

Solid film for what it is
giantkiller14 June 2012
You can tell they didn't have the budget of major Hollywood action films, but they seemed to make up for it with clever dialog, rich characters, and good solid action. Mickey gets in trouble in Belfast, and now is forced to run from his IRA past. BTW the modern day IRA seems more like thugs and gangsters then freedom fighters. This is an interesting concept, one I wish the film focused on, but instead used it as a setup rather then a main story line. A bad choice, but I'll rate the film on what it is, not what I wished it was. Once Mickey lands in LA (his new hideout) he begins life. But winds up with a gun back in his hand. This symbolic tool opens the flood gates to the pain and furry Mickey tried to escape back home. A great line in the film "Live by the gun, die by the bullet" I thought the performances where fantastic. The bartender, and leading lady where a bit soft in spots, but the other cast members where great. Ritter was riot, and the Chinese dude was incredible. Lead was amazing. The look was gritty and raw, cool shots and moody lighting. Direction seemed spot on.

Irish Gangster
SuperMah1 June 2012
For a low budget production this seemed to do a decent job. It wasn't the greatest but it was plausible.

The start of the movie was very strong and had me pumped. It was intense and felt like the rest of the movie was going to continue that way however, I was wrong and the intensity stopped there and it became more of a slow paced action movie.

The actors are not well known but most of them did a good job. Directing was appalling. The shaky cam, dull close shots etc. If the directing was better this would could have been much better.

The soundtrack choices were suitable for each scene and it seemed well placed.

One thing that really bothered me was the accents. I am not an expert on Irish accents but it didn't feel right and seemed like the actors were trying a "wii" bit hard.

Not a movie you will likely to remember or want to see again. I wouldn't advise anyone to watch this movie as I found nothing unique or worth watching.

Possibly the worst film I've ever watched
JoeSixPac4 June 2012
Not really much to say on this film other than it is poorly written, other than the lead character the acting is dreadful. Direction and production is also dismal. The camera is constantly shaking I'm not sure if this is intentional or not but the result is poor. The plot has potential however the very obvious low budget and even lower acting talent result in quite painful viewing with the exception of one or two scenes. This is my first review and its a pity it has to be so negative but as a long time user of this site I felt a sense of duty to warn people of this film. I could recommend anyone to view this film. In fact I would not even accept this film if it were offered to me as free gift for buying a car wash at a petrol station.

Solid Crime Drama
A solid Saturday afternoon film. Nothing Oscar worthy here, but 90mins of mindless movie fun.

Mainly about a IRA guy who gets in trouble in Belfast then must flee to Los Angeles (odd place, but that's where the producers live I guess) Once in LA he tries to begin a new life, only to pick up where he left off. Living the way of the gun. It catches up with him, along with his past.

The film has great characters, we meet a lot of interesting LA drug lords, not very typical ones either. From a black flower shop owner (Keith David) who is one of my favorite actors BTW to a Chinese restaurant owner to Mexican thugs. The lead Mickey who was amazing has to deal with all these cats.

The leading lady was OK, could of been hotter. And the brother Jimmy was kind of annoying. But I guess he is suppose to be.

The tone went from realistic to hyper real, the film was stylized nicely. The director chose the rights shots and fished some great performances.

Great Film on a Low Budget
backtothemovies4 June 2012
I really enjoyed this film, there's a lot of action and enough events going on to keep you watching all the way through. Some dodgy camera movements now and again but what do you expect from a low budget film, if the story is good and the movie is watchable then its a low budget flick thats paid off! There's been a lot of mixed reviews about this film but due to the high expectations of the general public nowadays I can understand that major film buffs will dislike this film, but from a general film lover of all genres, types and budgets I personally felt this was a brilliant film and im proud to have it in my collection as a strong tribute to low budget films !
