Good TOH but not great
dobbin-44 November 2009
I, like many Simpson's fans make it an annual tradition to sit down and watch the Simpson's tree house of horror specials (Which don't air on Halloween) and although always liking one of the segments the specials of late have been sadly below my expectations. Unfortunately this episode, while having many likable moments is not a fantastic episode by any means. I will now go into my analysis of all 3 segments.

Dial M For Murder Or Press # To Return To Main Menu: 7/10 This segment (Obviously) is a spoof of horror legend Alfred Hitchcock and the particular spoof they have here is of classic 1951 movie "Strangers On A Train". The plot line of this short has Lisa and Bart both in detention and bitter against the teacher where Bart has the plan to criss-cross and ding-dong-ditch the teacher. Bart then kills Lisa's teacher and Lisa, mistaking the ding-dong-ditch to be just a harmless prank fails to impress Bart and Bart tries to get her to take care of his business. This short is incredibly clever in the many spoofs of Hitchcock and there are many enjoyable moments in the 5 minutes this short takes up.

Don't Have A Cow, Mankind: 8/10 This is the best special of the night which is a spoof of the fantastic zombie film "28 Days Later" where Krusty Burger sells tainted meat which infects all of Springfield with an infection which turns them all into blood thirsty zombies. They then find out Bart is immune to infection and, with the help of Apu try to get him outside of Springfield to the "Safe Zone". This short is, while short, incredibly enjoyable and funny for a zombie fan. The only problem with this segment I have is that Homer was incredibly annoying in this short (More annoying than he has been usual in this normal series which is bearable) but that was not enough to put too much of a dampener on this generally hilarious spoof.

Sweeny Todd Type Spoof 5/10 While the second one was the best segment this one unfortunately fails to reach the standard of the first two (Which usually is n't how they do it in TOH episodes). This segment had some funny and well thought out moments but a lot of it seemed rushed. I can sadly only give this one 5/10.

Overall while this was n't the best TOH episodes it is probably the best from the last 3 years or so. Overall I'd give this a 7,

20 Years of fun
cchires19 October 2009
Here is the breakdown of last nights episode: Segment 1: Good; but could have had more fun with the Hitchcock references - although not many people would probably have understood them. Segment 2: Great! The best of the night: a zombie parody with a vindication for vegetarians. The best line was delivered by Bart when he asked "what kind of people eat the body and drink the blood of their savior?" Segment 3: OK: I couldn't really understand what they were going for, was is supposed to be a spoof on Sweeney Todd? It was entertaining, but the weakest of segment of the night:( Ultimately, after twenty years, the fact that this show can still execute quality work is some sort of miracle and we should all acknowledge The Simpsons as an American institution!

Funny but could be better.
WhiteHawkDerp19 October 2009
This year's Treehouse of Horror featured 3 stories: Dial M for Murder or Press "#" to Return to the Main Menu; Don't Have a Cow, Mankind and There's No Business Like Moe Business. I'll try and start segment-by-segment. This time, the intro was especially pleasing seeing that hardly anyone dresses up in a mummy costume or Frankenstein. When Dracula, Frankenstein, Mummy and Wolfman roam around, the infamous bullies mocks them and says: "Turner Classic Movies called. They want their costumes back." which really made my day. Our classical horror characters then dress up in modern costumes like Jack Sparrow and Spongebob. The end of the sequence is hilarious as well– with Homer's eyes popping up as XX, which refers to the twentieth Treehouse of Horror.

The first segment turns out to be in black-and-white. Lisa and Bart decide to do a "crisscross" where Bart punishes Ms. Hoover for Lisa whilst Lisa punishes Ms. Krabappel for Bart. However, things go out of control when Bart misunderstands what Lisa says and brings out Hoover's head in a bag. Bart seems epic in the ding-dong-ditch joke. Many people state this to be a Hitchcock parody but I haven't seen any Hitchcock movies except for Psycho so I can't really share my thoughts about this. The first segment wasn't that amusing at all– The Simpsons often pleases the 30s-40s crowd these days and I really didn't find most of the jokes funny at all.

The second segment is a direct parody from 28 Days Later, with direct proof from the hardcoded title in the episode. It was a treat to see Krusty finally and the joke of where Grade A beef being fed to other cows and those cows being slaughtered for the burger really cracked me up. Everyone then becomes a zombie and the Simpsons realize that Bart is the only saviour as he's immune to the disease. Apu was just plain awesome in this episode and how the Simpsons just leave him behind made me ROFL. In the end, everyone has to drink the soup in which Bart bathes in, in order for them to become immune. Which makes me wonder how they got the zombies to drink it in the first place. Anyone thinking of the major plot-hole in Smallville S09E03: Rabid where Superman's blood flows from the sky to cure everyone? The last segment was better than all of them. It features a Broadway-like musical in which Moe professes his love to Marge when Homer dies in a freakish accident in Moe's Tavern. Moe as the lonely bachelor flirting with Marge was definitely a must-see in a musical! The spelling errors made by Moe in Homer's fake confessional letter was too funny ("Dear Midge".. LOL!) The end shows Homer being resurrected as part-beer part-human and features all Springfield characters except for Kang and Kodos (well, if they didn't come, I'd be very angry at the Simpsons writers!) Overall, this episode tries to strain to become a Treehouse of Horror episode but doesn't quite maintain the level of standard that it did with old episodes. Last year's Treehouse was more funnier, especially with Transformers, but this episode could be more funnier. Maybe the Hitchcock segment could have been etched out of the script. It totally ruined the first half.

Strong beginning but lackluster overall....

Warning: Spoilers
This was a fairly strong installment in the Simpsons long running Treehouse of Horror episodes.

I enjoyed the opening gag with the classic Hollywood monsters being set upon by their wives.

The first story really surprised me as tonally it was very dark. I enjoyed the homage to Hitchcock and was pretty startled when we went from kids pranking to murder. I was just as freaked as Lisa when Bart pulled Mrs Hoovers head out of his bag. Then we had Lisa all of a sudden gung ho to kill Bart, the ending also got me. Daring and dark and I absolutely loved it.

The second story incorporated about 3 different zombie films and wasn't really offering anything new or inventive in the story apart from the occasional good gag.

The final story being a take on Tim Burton's deliciously dark musical take on Sweeney Todd again was pretty lackluster. I did enjoy a couple of the songs but that was about it.

Overall another Treehouse of Horror episode that started strong but was let down by unimaginative concepts in the final 2 stories.

Not the Finest Halloween Special but they Never Fail to Entertain,
lesleyharris3014 October 2014
Treehouse of Horror XX is a great Simpsons episode with three very well written story lines. It is honestly one of the weakest Halloween specials to date in my honest opinion, but I always thoroughly enjoy these episodes and this one is no exception. My favourite segment is certainly Don't Have a Cow,Mankind,it was a very clever take on zombie films,I also really enjoyed There's No Business Like Moe Business which was a very funny fake musical, but the first segment was certainly the weakest and was a bit too dark for Simpsons standards.Treehouse of Horror XX is a very enjoyable Simpsons episode.

In the series twentieth annual Halloween special,Bart and Lisa agree to help each other get revenge on their teachers,a zombie apocalypse starts in Springfield and Moe tries to win Marge's heart by convincing her Homer has left her.

A Good Treehouse of Horror
e_daneva15 March 2024
Treehouse of Horror XX was a good Simpsons episode. Even though this Treehouse of Horror was worse than the last one, Treehouse of Horror IXX ( Treehouse of Horror 19 ) this Treehouse of Horror was better than Treehouse of Horror XVI through Treehouse of Horror XVIII. Basically this was better than the three Treehouse of Horrors after Treehouse of Horror 20. Also this is better than Treehouse of Horror 11-12. Either way, this Treehouse of Horror was funny and just fun to watch. What I like to do for Treehouse of Horror episodes is to have an introduction, which is what I'm typing right now, and then write mini reviews for each segment. I also like to do this for anthology episodes to. Anyway, let's get started

Segment #1, Dial M for Murder or Press # to Return to the Main Menu. This segment was a good segment. Segment #1 ( there's no way I'm writing that name again ) was a really funny segment, but I just wish that the writers added more of a horror element to it too. I know that Treehouse of Horrors haven't been scary in ages, but this segment had the opportunity to be at least a little scary, but it took a completely comedy route.

Segment #2, Don't Have a Cow Mankind. This is probably my favorite segment! It has tons of hilarious moments, such as the " You can shoot her in H*ll " scene. This segment also had a chance to be kinda scary, but this wasn't at all, and I gotta say, this was the funniest segment of the bunch

Segment #3, There's No Business Like Moe.

Meta ending
safenoe12 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I especially liked the ending of Treehouse of Horror XX, with the final segment being a theater production, and all the characters appearing on stage at the end for the encore. Definitely very meta and respectful to the audience, which I loved!

The Hitchcock segment in segment one was quite biting with a cameo appearance by Alfred Hitchcock himself, and which make Anthony Hopkins proud for sure. The second segment was a parody of 28 Days Later (I was going to say Zombieland, but that top movie was released the same year as Treehouse of Horror XX) , and was quite funny and biting, pardon the pun.

Another great halloween segment
arielsiere4 July 2022
It first starts with Dial M For Murder which is a common reference to Strangers On A Train after Bart tries to kill the teacher, the second segment Don't Have A Cow Mankind was a reference to Zombieland afted thd citizens of Springfield becomes zombies after eating burgers and last but not least the third segment There's No Business Like Moe Business is a common reference to Sweeney Todd after the blood of Homer becomes the new ingredient from Moe's recipe and even Barney Gumble was disguised as The Phantom Of The Opera. For me is another great segment with music and catchy songs.

Classic Hitchcock Set Up
Gerardrobertson6126 February 2018
The 20th TOH takes on a classic Hitchcock movie and a Simpsons version of The Walking Dead. I found the homage to Hitchcock very funny and enjoyable, even included a cameo of the master himself like he would in his own movies., it was made in black and white so it had that extra film noir appeal. The second story involved a zombie apocalypse, maybe a tribute to The Walking Dead, but based on a Krusty Burger that turns the Springfield population in "munchers", instead of "walkers". I enjoyed this one as well.

The third story was a musical set in a theater that has Moe's tavern as the main setting. This was a bit of a weak story and I did not enjoy as much as the first two.
