The magic of cinema. The lights dim, the screen illuminates, and we’re transported to another world. But what happens when that world contains… another world? Horror has long been a genre that loves to play with its audience, and nothing says “I see you” quite like a movie-within-a-movie. It’s like a Russian doll of terror, layers of scares unfolding one after another… and who doesn’t love a good nesting nightmare?
Let’s dive into the meta-madness of horror films that give us a double dose of dread, with the movie-within-a-movie trope!
Universal 10. Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) Movie-Within-a-Movie: Halloween (1978)
Dr. Daniel Challis (Tom Atkins) stumbles upon a sinister plot by the Silver Shamrock mask company to harness Stonehenge’s mystical powers and harm children on Halloween night. Amidst this chaos, a TV commercial advertises the original Halloween movie, suggesting a universe where Michael Myers’ terror is mere fiction.

In “Terrifier 2,” a slasher named Art the Clown wears a jester costume with pom-pom buttons and a white bald harlequin head cover, and he’s got licorice-black teeth frozen into a rictus grin (it’s literally a dirty mouth), a hooked nose that looks like something out of an anti-Semitic caricature from the ’30s, a small top hat cocked to the side of his head, and a general attitude of it-only-hurts-you-when-i-laugh blood-soaked dementia. That laugh of Art’s is a real keeper, because it’s silent, like Marcel Marceau’s. He’s so brimming with stylized delight as he chops and saws and skins and dismembers people and throws acid into their faces that he’s like Freddy Krueger channeling Liberace channeling Josef Mengele. When he’s soaked in gore, which is much of the time, the grin shines all the brighter.

Ashlynn Yennie was born in the small town of Riverton, Wyoming. She studied acting at the New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts. Her first feature film credit was when she was cast as Jenny in the cult horror film The Human Centipede. She subsequently appeared in the first sequel to that notorious film and has kept busy, acting not just in horror films, but showing wide range in a diverse variety of TV and film roles. Her newest film is the thriller Antodote, in which she plays Sharyn, a young woman held captive in an underground medical facility where selected individuals are perpetually mutilated and then healed using a secret Antidote.
Ashlynn Yennie took the time to talk to We Are Movie Geeks about her career, Antidote, and what it was like attending the premiere of The Human Centipede II with her Grandmother.

The Writer’s Meeting follows the usual banal routine. Expensively yet tastefully appointed conference room. Mahogany table laid out with the small, bottled Evians, containers of Chinese food (untouched), four-inch-long rails of blow chopped on the new Coldplay CD cover (touched). The writer’s assistant, a B-movie actress you would recognize (The Human Millipede, Spring Break Gangbang VI), her blonde hair now red, sits at the far end of the table taking notes. “Listen,” I say, “this is all very confusing. Are we or are we not discussing the same script? Is Philip Seymour Hoffman attached to the project or not?” I am beginning to sense panic in their eyes and need to restore order and confidence quickly. “What we have here is a live-action Happy Feet: Rio meets Antichrist, right? The anticipated (or at least, for people with capable stomachs) sequel "Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence" hit theaters this weekend, and according to estimates provided by Rentrak earlier this afternoon it found perhaps the most promising results of a generally unimpressive batch of opening films. "Full Sequence" grossed $54,000 from 18 screens, averaging what might seem like a poor $3,000. However, the estimates so far are impressive considering "Full Sequence" ...

Late last night we received a brand new The Human Centipede 2 opening day poster. The movie is in theaters today October 7, 2011 in a limited theatrical release nationwide. (Check the theater listing below). The opening day poster for The Human Centipede 2 is a bit sick and more fitting for the movie in my opinion. I would have never imagined a centipede coming out of that part of the body. You can see the original poster at the end of this article. The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) aka The Human Millipede is written and directed by Tom Six (The Human Centipede (First Sequence) and stars Laurence R. Harvey, Ashlynn Yennie (Fetch) and Dominic Borrelli (Hogfather), Vivien Bridson, Lee Harris, Peter Charlton, and Bill Hutchens.

Some horror fans were disappointed in The Human Centipede: First Sequence for not showing enough detail in how the actual human centipede was surgically produced. Not to worry your wish for more gory details on the actual creation of the human centipede will be completed in The Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence. The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) aka The Human Millipede is written and directed by Tom Six (The Human Centipede (First Sequence) and stars Laurence R. The new trailer for horror sequel Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence) has just hit the Internet and we can reveal that it includes footage from the first film, an actual centipede, and a gentleman who seems to have borrowed his beard from Billy Gibbons’ hairier brother. Oh, yes, and it also features a bunch of people who are clearly about to have their mouths attached to someone else’s rear end, but we figured you probably knew that already. (If, on the other hand, you’re a Human Centipede newbie then welcome to our coverage of this franchise. You’ve presumably...

Writer-director Tom Six’s already infamous horror sequel Human Centipede 2 (Full Sequence) received its world premiere last night at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. According to one review, the movie “redefines the word ‘disgusting,’” which I suspect Mr. Six will take as a compliment. The film’s distributors IFC have also released a poster for HC2, which is actually rather tasteful — at least, compared to pretty much everything else connected with this franchise — but is still just Nsfw-ish enough that we felt it best to place the sucker after the jump.

The first impulse when discussing the gruesome details of "The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence)," Tom Six's simultaneously anticipated and feared follow-up to the 2009 cult hit, is simply to describe them. First, here's the plot: A bite-sized British security guard takes his fetishization of the first movie to maniacal extremes, gathering 12 victims and enacting an elaborate and much gorier centipede of his own. For those unfamiliar with the ...

The Human Centipede director Tom Six has slammed British film officials for banning his upcoming sequel to the graphic horror movie and posting scene spoilers on their website.
The original film, about a German doctor who kidnaps three tourists and surgically joins them mouth to anus to form a human centipede, received mixed reviews upon its limited release last year, and now the follow-up The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) is causing controversy over its sexually violent plotline.
The disturbing new movie, written and directed by Six, was due for release on DVD this year, but it will not hit the U.K. market following a ruling by officials at the British Board of Film Classification, which deemed the film "unacceptable" for viewers.
And Six is not at all pleased.
In a statement released to Empire, he says, "Thank you BBFC for putting spoilers of my movie on your website and thank you for banning my film in this exceptional way. Apparently I made an horrific horror-film, but shouldn't a good horror film be horrific? My dear people it is a f**king Movie.
"It is all fictional. Not real. It is all make-belief. It is art. Give people their own choice to watch it or not. If people can't handle or like my movies they just don't watch them. If people like my movies they have to be able to see it any time, anywhere also in the UK.”
Filmmakers have six weeks to appeal the decision.

Director Says Original Film Is Like "My Little Pony" Compared To Harrowing Sequel A small little exclusive for you horror fans out there. Composer James Edward Barker ("Psych:9," released by Sam Raimi's Ghost House distribution label) has now been signed on to write the sure-to-be-harrowing score and music design to Tom Six's "The Human Centipede II : Full Sequence."
