Tamil actor Karthi’s upcoming action-thriller film ‘Japan’ has released its latest track ‘Sottangalla’. Sung by Sean Roldan, ‘Sottangalla’ is a very soft piece which has a feeling of emotional nostalgia, as well as a kind of romance to it.
The song is radically different from the previous song ‘Touching Touching’ from the movie which was totally sexual and laid out the character’s hedonistic lifestyle. ‘Sottangalla’ in contrast has no sexual elements and is entirely devoid of any such references.
Rather it is more of a looking back on things as the video shows the titular character’s early childhood, him growing up, and then falling in love at the very end.
The whole movie’s premise is about a man who was born into destitution and poverty, and how he rises up to become a wealthy thief who has no shortage of money.
As such, ‘Sottangalla’ perfectly complements this feeling of nostalgia.

Director Muthaiah, who is known for making wholesome commercial entertainers, is back with another such entertainer in ‘Viruman’. Like most of his previous films, the story of this film too has a rural backdrop and tries to showcase the strength of relationships in a family.
The film begins with a young boy chasing his dad with a dagger to kill him. Eventually, we learn that the boy, Viruman (Karthi), is the fourth son of Muniyandi (Prakash Raj), a Tahsildar by profession.
A young Viruman tells in court that he wishes to stay with his uncle (Raj Kiran) rather than with his father after the death of his mother. The court grants his desire and young Viruman grows up in his uncle’s place while his three brothers grow up at his father’s place.
As the story progresses, we learn that Viruman has built a memorial for his mother at...

ReviewIn his previous film ‘Devarattam’, Muthaiah used sexual violence as a prop to further the hero’s arc. In ‘Viruman’, it is domestic violence.Sowmya RajendranScreengrab: YouTube/ Sony Music SouthDirector Muthaiah’s second film with Karthi is yet another rural masala entertainer where the men flash their underpants and take out their knives at the slightest hint of an argument, and the women are pawns in the ensuing melodrama. In Viruman, Karthi plays the youngest of four brothers in a Thevar family in Theni. The film opens with his younger self running behind his father, Muniyandi (Prakash Raj), determined to kill him. The boy tells the court that he will only stay with his uncle (Rajkiran) and that he will murder his father if the latter attempts to get his custody. Cut to the present, and Viruman makes his entry in a wrestling competition. Of course he vanquishes every man at the contest.
