Sex & Nudity

  • A man and his wife have sex in a motel, a sheet covers their lower bodies as he thrusts on top of her, there is a brief glimpse of her nipple although her breasts are mostly concealed by his chest. It is a drawn-out, emotional sex scene.

Violence & Gore

  • An emotionally disturbed boy guns down several people in his school; the shooting is not shown at all in the film but there are references to the details of it, on TV and in conversation.
  • A man catches a boy who has broken into his house, he grabs him by the throat and pins him to the doorframe for a moment before letting him go. The man then cuts his hand on a piece of broken glass; he is seen with a bandage around his hand from then on. At one point he lies in bed and the blood seeps through the bandage, some of it smears on his face.
  • A man and woman have a huge argument, he smashes a DVD which greatly upsets her.

Profanity

  • As an example of the level of adult language, 'fuck' is used just 4 times.
  • Random scattered swearing, usually in response to anger.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A man and woman get very drunk together in a motel room.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The movie deals not with the shooting itself but the aftermath, the impact it makes on the shooter's family; several scenes in which the parents are talking about the boy, reminiscing and sharing their feelings on the matter are very emotional, with a few scenes of emotional breakdowns, a lot of crying and depression. The whole subject matter and the portrayal of how it affects the lives of those left behind is upsetting and moving.
