Very good, except for...
mag-dungo28 June 2023
The bad overacting and the use of Tagalog that nobody really speaks. I mean their dialogue...who talks Tagalog like that in real life? Its very unnatural and fake... it' obvious its a script reading affair, the words tney use are so literal, it's like I'm in school again in Tagalog class learning words I'll never use in my life.

Anyway, the robots and robot fights are what keep me watching. This is one show where the CGI is better than the actors. Oh, and the cheesy love stories and monlogues are just terrible. And the premise that the audience is dumb by over explaining everything is quite funny too.

But hey, we watch for the robots anyway.

It is good but needs Improvement
EisGrave2 June 2023
An honest review from a long time fan from the late 80s. VVL has managed to meet my expectations with the robot model, the base and most of the technical elements of Voltes V. The CGI is far better than anything we have seen so far from Philippine film and television. Though still needs a lot of improvement to be at par with international standards, but they are getting there. Now on to the story. I find some elements added to the original story like the romantic links between several characters (which I will not mention anymore as they are very easy to spot once you watch) are unnecessary and kind of derails from the original story which did not have any romantic links with the main characters as Voltes V was created with the intent to focus on family love, brotherhood and camaraderie and the Armstrong brother's longing to be with their father hence the original closing theme was titled: Chi chi Wo Motomete ("I Want Father") to emphasize the focus of family love instead of romantic love. We still at episode 19 so there are still a lot to see if the PH live-action adaptation will stay true and canon to the original story or will it be just a revised NON-Canon version of Voltes V from an alternate verse. I will update my review once we get halfway through the series @ ep 40. 😉

A leap from what the Filipinos are being served with.
casebalvarez26 May 2023
While this show is still a little far from what Hollywood movies can offer, this is definitely a 10/10 as a Filipino Show. Darna TV Series is nothing compared to this even the fact that it was highly anticipated. This is 10 times better than what the Filipinos are used seeing production wise. This deserves a huge support and I hope this will just be the beginning of something great for the Philippine Entertainment Industry.

I can just imagine how better this could have been if this was a movie instead. As I watch the episodes, I notice how dependent to post production this show is. The witty thing I notice is that they focus on perfecting the VFX for the essential scenes and that's a great decision considering the budget.

I just really hope this would be the start of bigger things for Filipinos. The Philippine Entertainment Industry should take risks like this because if they don't who will? And if not now, when?

Im very picky but VVL caught my attention!
clgenesis26 May 2023
VVL never disappoint me, animation is good, the actors and actresses deliver a good show! And the live series answers all the questions we have on the story & also bringing out the reality of what the characters could be in person. I may have doubt on the actors you pick but after i watch the film they suit best and really touch my heart.

All episodes are awesome and brings excitement to watch and look forward!

You truly brings back the excitement of watching a series again.

Kudos to the staff and crews! I am very picky at something to watch but after i get convince of the trailer and watch the first episode i become a fan!

Hope to more success and thank you for stepping up for upgrading our film industry to a new level. You set up the bar too high!

I still support this as this is the first Filipino film/series who took the risk and made a move to step up Philippine Cinema.... but
balthier0312 May 2023
FINAL UPDATE: First early episodes sucks balls. Bear with it, it gets better, it gets really really better, just ignore the bad acting of some parts

All budget went to CGI, CGI was good for a filipino film but everything else was bad, acting was cringe except for the veteran actors like Dennis Trillo etc., the storyboarding and the cinematography was awful, there are scenes which the context was skipped, alot of scenes which badly executed, couple of dead air shots without sense, the sound design is extremely painful, There are times where you wont hear any sounds, the environment is silent, only voices are heard, the gun firing sounds sounds like it was just put there on top of the clip not matching the shots. Terrible ending per episode, They cut like this was a 1 Full movie and cut to episodes, there are no cliffhangers on end of episodes so far to excite the viewers for the next episode, it just randomly cuts and show credits.

I would love to give them the benefit of the doubt as this is a daily episodic series, but unlike other daily episodic series, this was given time and budget to release a finished quality product, no reason for them to release a trashy series.

I blame GMA for still getting Mark Reyes, cuz he is old school and never evolved, unlike Hollywood directors which are timeless(Scorsese,Tarantino,Spielberg etc.) Quality Films even at age 60-80.

Filipino old directors never tend to evolve in directing style, writing and etc. I hope they've given this project to a younger director with fresh ideas and relevant writing. Zig Dulay excecuted Maria Clara and Ibarra very well given the daily episodic setup, Although major scenes in MCI were not perfect, I appreciate the cinematography and the concept of what Zig is trying to send, also MCI was unexpectedly unpredictable.

I've actually defended this from other bashers during the trailer release as I was hyped and surprised about the CGI quality but got really disappointed of the finished product.

I get how foreign people support this as this is a first in Philippine Cinema, and people praise this as support, But lets be real here, Aside from the CGI, nothing was good here,. Even the ColorGrading was awful, it looked like a cheap oldschool Encantadia palette (which was very untimely now) very old school TV look very 2005-2007 GMA 7 Fantaserye vibe.

Don't get me wrong I'm all for this, but I wont be blinded and fake praise this just for the gist of it. I'm criticizing this to make sure the next one would be better. If people think this is good, then future films wont make improvements

Lihim ni Urduja was waaay better in quality/writing/cinematography compared to this. Sad to say but Kick out Mark Reyes.

PS: Changed my rating, Story picked up Pace after at episode 10 Action made up for what was lacking, even the cringe acting became somewhat acceptable in some parts. STILL Sound Design is trash, acting overall is trash, but the storyboarding improved Not sure if this will be consistent, hopefully it will. The Color palette still looks awful some scenes look like they are oilpaintings. And this Telenovela Colorgrading should be removed from TV.

Another Update: OK I was wrong but the early episodes were really trash, I must say this has gotten awesome.

Awesome 👍😎

Warning: Spoilers
Don't mind the other critics, the show was good better than any BIAS show. The graphics were super awesome and the actors are fit into their characters. This is an honest review. Try watching it before you judge, it's awesome. Super cool graphics 100 times better than Darna.

Watch it... Enjoy it... Be Proud of it... Family friendly show... You'll be amaze while chilling and relax.

Don't doubt it. To see is to believe.

100% 👍😎 Those negative comments don't deserve the good show like this. I'm giving it 10/10 because i'm so proud of it. I do like the story the CGI was 😍. I'm loving the characters and the whole show.

Too Much Romantic Scene and Actor exposure
SungJinWooo21 August 2023
To be honest I love the anime version. This live adaptation is quite different from the original version. There are too much romantic scene between Isabel ortega and Miguel Tan Felix. The dirdctor puts too much unnecessary scenes and deviates from the original. Changes are ok as long as it's good but that is not the case. That is the reason why it will end sooner than the likes of Abot kamay na pangarap.

Another thing I don't like is putting elle villanueva as ex lover of Miguel which never happened in the original series. They are just doing this to give the actress exposure.

When the robot fights, they put too much emphasis on the pilots rather than the robot. Those who watched the anime don't appreciate this. Only fanboys and fangirl of the actors and actress will like those things. I hope they put more emphasis on the robot fighting rather than showing the faces of all pilots each time the robot makes a move.

My 2 kids and I were so hyped when the show was announced however after few days of watching we no longer want to watch it because of the said reasons above. My kids prefer watching netflix YouTube instead or play outside. They said there are too much conversation between the cast and there are too few fighting scenes.

Remember we want to watch voltes V because of the fighting scenes not because we want to see the actor and actresses talk. They are like making voltes V a telenovela.

Best CGI in Philippine history
jepvcabrera27 May 2023
Great overall. Highly recommended for those who have not watched the original anime series, and a great feeling to watch it all over again in live action as a fan of the anime. Big props to GMA for making this happen!

Story telling was also great starting with how the Voltes robot originated and the story of Ned Armstrong.

The CGI was expectional and the best in philippine history by far. Fight scenes were well orcestrated in CGI as well as the detailing on the Voltes robot and beast fighter.

Can't wait to see how it progress and excited to see more beast fighters fighting our very own Voltes V!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 9/10.

constructive criticism
karen04040427 May 2023
CGI is better compared to any ph fantasy shows, not hollywood level but at least it improved and upgrading the mecha design into "infinity" type is good. I don't watch ph shows because of boring plots, I only watch foreign shows because of diversity and good quality, I tried to see this show out of curiosity, my observations are:

1. Man to man fighting scenes - very slow, soft, lame, lousy posture/stance and it's obvious the hits aren't landing, movements not sharp (it looks like they were afraid to hit the others and their bodies are stiff or heavy, you can see the softness and hesitation in their movements), for local standard it's fine but if you compare it to foreign action shows the quality is extremely far (subpar)...they need a strict professional martial arts/fighting instructor for better choreography and technique, a good camera angle/tricks and movements can contribute for a convincing effect too...much better if the actors will undergo real martial arts training even just for months (e.g. Wushu for flexibility, jiujitsu or karate for better fighting stance, fencing and kendo for sword fights, etc.) for enhanced movements and speed...even some simple hit scenes, hits were obviously too far (simple slap, simple kick) these need a good camera angle... please try to watch a lot of foreign action movies (not those action movies which use guns only) and observe the details, the actors' movements and the martial arts they use, the camera angles/tricks and its movements then research how they execute these scenes beautifully and satisfying (e.g. The raid: redemption, the witch: subversion, so close (sword fight), crouching tiger hidden dragon, ong bak, and a lot more), it can help...watch and learn from them, no need to imitate, just take note some of the techniques for improvement...i don't know why but this show took years of preparation and finished all the episodes before airing and the network has been doing a lot of action-fantasy/action genre shows for more than a decade already but the substandard quality (sorry it is the truth, you might hate me for telling the truth) of all of their so-so man to man fight scenes never ever improve, most of the choreographies are already basic and not complicated but the very lame execution is still the same (take a look at the Japanese tokusatsu/super sentai man to man fight scenes in which the time of preparation is a lot shorter but still good and way better than this show or any of the ph fighting scenes), sometimes it makes me think that these tv networks don't listen and accept constructive criticisms due to stagnant substandard fight scenes... even in the other networks this part never improved, please pay attention to these scenes. Fighting scene is also a part of "acting" so it needs to be taken more seriously, a good fighting scene is also a good acting (especially when a show's genre has "action" written on it)....acting doesn't end in drama and comedy only, so please stop too much focusing on drama and comedy only.

2. Adding too many unnecessary fillers (both non-canon ships and parts of the story) and characters, not sticking to the source material - a lot of live actions flopped and/or heavily criticized because of this (most notable of them all is the dragonball evolution in which the author himself approved the live action of his work and also cooperated but flopped because of this reason, and the author himself didn't like the outcome of the movie... I remember there's this show from long time ago - "zaido: pulis pangkalawakan" which was also approved by Toei but flopped too and this is one of the reasons, i hope this show won't experience the same fate as these shows so their effort won't be wasted), most fans imagine how their favorite manga/manhwa/manhua/anime/webtoon/donghua will look like in real life, live action is giving them a chance to make their dream come true, so expectation is in there. And I noticed, the backstories are too long, backstories are fine but this genre is a combination of mecha and shounen genre. Adding too much drama, romance and backtories will make it look like a shoujo or josei genre and it's skippable, a little romance is fine as long as it's canon, just don't add too much fanservice. Some characters are OOC (out of character, please research about the common anime character types like kuudere, tsundere, yandere, etc. So you may understand more the characters when producing a live action). Sticking to the source material is also sign of respect to the original author/creator and its fanbase/fandom.

3. Acting - deliveries of dialogs are often dry and cringey, some weapon shouts are flat. There are intances that the acting is not suitable for the situation (e.g. Acting too serious in a light or relax situation like some of the characters look like they are always depressed or annoyed even in a very light situation where depressive expression is not needed, some cockpit scenes where the movements are too much compared to the movements of camera or cockpit, and lacking energy in a situation when a lively energy is needed) please just lessen this way of acting too (acting too serious all the time, it's kinda OA and cringey, if the situation is chill, just chill) more workshop is needed to polish the acting skill.

4. Background music - needs to add more variety of music, sometimes it feels off and a bit boring due to lack of diversity (new sound and music composition) the show is often using the instrumental OST the only difference is the musical instrument, playing the opening OST while combining is good...the sound design too is kinda off sometimes. The original background music inserted from the anime is good and somewhat gives nostalgic feeling tho.

5. OST - sounds good but soft and karaoke-ish... lacking the feeling of toughness or anthem of valour...when singing the OST, the expression is much better if the singing has this emotion of challenging the enemy. The singer is not a native Nihonjin or a Nihongo speaker so the Filipino accent which makes the pronunciation a bit cringey is somewhat excusable (e.g. "tomo", "tsu", etc.) but much better if there was someone who can instruct her the right accent of the examples. The music sounds better if it is live or adding second voices.

6. Too much fanservice - there's nothing wrong with fanservice but adding too much fanservice (especially non-canon ones) makes the story cringey

And i think, they may lessen the exposure of pilots' faces in every move of the mecha to emphasize the mecha fights, it's ok to show the faces while fighting, just lessen this part a bit...they can put the voices of pilots talking while showing the mecha fight sometimes.

We just borrowed voltes v (rights) from Japan so as much as possible, please respect the canon source material and don't mess it.

And honestly, the only saving grace of the show is the CGI (sometimes repetitive but excusable), the drama parts are skippable especially the non-canon ships, the cheesy love triangle (or square) isn't cute and flirting ate too much part of the story (this endless flirty culture never leaves Filipino shows regardless of networks and genre).. and 2 things shocked me, naming the Gamenza as the kaiju Gamera of Kadokawa and the bed scene. These two are very risky moves, but anyway, i don't think they don't know about its copyright.

One more thing, some people are saying "people from abroad are praising the show while my countrymen are criticizing this show", some may be bashing but some are criticizing the show for its improvement, telling the poor sides is also a part of support. These people who criticize the show have seen all the contents of released episodes so they have seen its good and poor sides, while people from other countries just seen the CGI and a small piece of the show only that's why praises are often disclosed, those who have seen the source material might react when they see the non-canon parts while those who didn't see/network fan/patriotic/shippers might appreciate it. I want this show (if there's an extension because the next show isn't ready yet, or any revision) and the next one (if it happen) to succeed that's why I'm pointing out the parts that needs to improve and didn't do tatemae, especially when talking about the "overall quality". Free TV show doesn't mean it's ok to tolerate the poor sides of the show. The word "adaptation" won't justify the major changes of the story, meanwhile, animation of manga/manhua/manhwa is also an "adaptation". Giving constructive criticism isn't bad unless the receiver doesn't like improvement. Sometimes, we need to take note of our weakness and make it better, if not, then it's ok, there are people who don't need unsolicited help anyway. All of these are not an ad hominem but a corrective action for the sake of quality art, please stop this "bakya" mentality it ruins the quality of an art.

A LOT DIFFERENT FROM THE ANIME
giganiga-266422 June 2023
A LOT DIFFERENT FROM THE ANIME BUT IT HAS ITS OWN CHARM BOTH ARE 👍GOOD. AND THE WAY THE STORY FLOWS IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND IT CAUSES THE VIEWERS TO HAVE DEEPER ATTACHMENT TO THE CHARACTERS. IT CLEAR OUT SOME PLOT HOLES THAT THE ANIME LEFT I LIKE THAT IT'S LIKE AN ALTERNATE REALITY FROM THE ORIGINAL ANIME BECAUSE THERE ARE THINGS THAT IS OPPOSITE TO THW ORIGINAL ANIME THAT HAS GOOD EFFECT ON THW STORT I ALSO LOVE THAT GMA ADD SOME PHYSICS TO IT MAKING THINGS LIKE FLYING IN THE ATMOSPHERE AS VOLTES V IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE OF HOW BIG VOLTES V OVERALL ITS GOOD AND I LOVE THST YOU CAN FEEL THAT THEY LOVE.

Worth the Wait!
shanedobeta12 May 2023
"This scene when they assembled!!! That nostalgic OST!!! GOOSEBUMPS!!! How I wish I'm watching this with my brothers right now. Childhood memories!"

"The live-action did not disappoint. Few scenes could have been better but overall, I was very entertained. The CGI is the best I've seen so far on Philippine TV. Di nakakahiya ipakita sa international audience,

They even recreated part of the opening for Voltes V!

Voltes V: Legacy is the best live-action CGI adaptation with the best actors like Miguel Tanfelix, Ysabel Ortega, Radson Flores, Matt Lozano, Radson Flores, and Raphael Landicho

All in all, fans are absolutely hyped up for the series, with some saying it's "worth the wait."

A Nostalgic and Thrilling Adaptation
yavinprime5 June 2023
I recently had the opportunity to watch Voltes V Legacy, and as a fan of the original anime series, I was pleasantly surprised by the live-action adaptation. The show managed to capture the essence and nostalgia of the beloved mecha anime while adding its own unique flair.

One of the standout aspects of Voltes V Legacy is its faithful representation of the characters. The casting was well done, with the actors embodying the spirit of the original characters and bringing them to life on screen. The chemistry among the main cast was evident, and their performances were convincing and enjoyable to watch.

The action sequences in the series were nothing short of exhilarating. The battles between the giant robots and the alien forces were expertly choreographed and visually stunning. The special effects, although not on a Hollywood blockbuster level, were still impressive and added to the overall excitement of the show.

What I appreciated most about Voltes V Legacy was its ability to update the story for a modern audience while staying true to its roots. The show introduced new elements and twists that kept me engaged and intrigued throughout the series. It was evident that the creators had a deep respect for the source material and made efforts to expand on the world of Voltes V without straying too far from its core themes.

Of course, every adaptation has its flaws, and Voltes V Legacy is no exception. Some viewers might find fault with certain aspects, such as the occasional pacing issues or deviations from the original storyline. However, in my opinion, these minor shortcomings did not detract from the overall enjoyment and entertainment value of the show.

Needs improvement
razishekar29 May 2023
The original anime had alot of strategy, science and deeper context. I've watched all the episodes as a kid and as an adult and I do miss it.

Cgi was good for the PH setting but compared to global standards it will barely compete. The conversations were very shallow and very little strategy and science. The episodes looked like fillers. The producers didn't even share the budget used for.this but it's definitely better than their other creations.

The anime was more catered to a "global" audience and was more polished. The anime was good. The producer of the anime is all but retired and original director passed away in 1980

This is "live action" is too localized and sensationalized. Personally it will not be missed.

There are negative comments like mine because this is a beloved series and this didn't meet my expectations. The Voltes V Legacy is not a worthy successor to the anime and it was disappointing.

Family oriented with a touch of Filipino culture
janizkovskynox27 May 2023
You can see that after a few episodes, the CG has improved. The Voltes V legacy has back stories that is supplemental to the next scene like the armstrong brothers' character development and strong family ties. The animations is a feast to the eyes and visually appealing. The Bazooka has improved and made it more modern than the 77 anime. It is a very good family show.

This is a huge step on Philippine TV production.

It is a show that I personally look forward everynight.

Kudos to all the management and staff, crew and artists. It bringa nostalgia to those who have watched the anime before....

jbduenas20 June 2023
I thought this is made by other companies outside ph in terms of cgi robot. In fact it is 100% pinoy made of live adaptation the directors and writers are widen the storywise the lore of voltes v legacy. My cons in my opinion there is a canon event characters not existed in the anime like romatic scene and antagonist like eva look like jopay and spy bozenian judy and other characters but it is acceptable. For costumes and actors and base of camp big falcon and bozenian skull im speechless of good execute and overall is 10/10 for me. Always remember fellow pinoys NO MORE CGI KAMATIS AGAIN ORAYT.

Good Start but...

Warning: Spoilers
OverviewCastEpisodesReviews Ratings 7.4/10 · IMDb Audience rating summary 5 4 3 2 1 4.

Just now My Full Review In Voltes V legacy

I've finished the entire series and I'm kinda dissatisfied at the end...

The episode 1 to 10 we're not a good start because it's focused on rothgar/ Ned Armstrong, Too much that in the end there's not much of an emotional support in the finale I hope they just intruduce it slowly so that they can express more lores to each characters specially Jaime there's literally no Arcs that's relate in her being ninja, what's this just a display of her being a ninja?? And also mark, No lore of being an cowboy.... The only thing that has been good in this show is the Cgi robot The writing is a meh... To much Unneeded scenes and Useless arcs That's not in the anime.

Their creating their own story that's not even make's sense like the stupid apable arc??? What's the point of it in the story Spoiler alert , it's about an assassination attempt on Jaime by AVA. Also the AVA closing arc is terrible it feels rush...

I've expect an High Quality Live action series that can actually makes the Live action Better give an attention.. But this is not what I expected it's no where near One piece nor Dragonball Evolution! Literally the Only impressive part about this is the beast fighters And The volt in sequence and the sound effects...

The midway of Voltes V legacy is just confusing, I know the writter tries to make the Show more mature but the script it feels Old that it feels like being made like in mid 80s? Or something And the Cgi is reppetitive! They didn't even make an actual realistic render its more like an video game graphics! What the! And this is being called "CAN RIVAL DC OR MARVEL" IN TERMS OF CGI!!! HA What a Huge Joke...

Overall the music was decent and the only one carrying the show... The camera angle is mehhh.... The Colorgrading thought its Magnificent!!!

But the ending is a bit Rush and it's the terrible part of the entire series it's just ruined for me the Green screen is sooo terible that it's obvious, and the duel between zardos and Steve the background! Is so fake it's just like an steady image of a robot Tf?

I'll give this 4/10 sorry that's only I can Give Good start, Confusing middle and, Dissatisfied Ending...

cirehid2 September 2023
Can we talk about how great this show is? It's a 70's Japanese anime turned into a live action show. I discovered this show by accident and I am hooked. It combines romance drama with CGI giant robots and it works! So have you folks seen it and are you enjoying it as much as I am?

It's not perfect, but man, is it decent in a good way

I hope the network and studios behind this get more budget because this show has the best CGI and practical suits/effects to come out of the Philippines. You can see the dedication put into making this live-action retelling.

Unlike the BQ it's ugly poor...........

If you set the bar low...
yuechan-7422526 May 2023
...you might find some parts "ok".

A few impressions:

1. CG fights are where most of the effort went. OK for PH tv but tbh games today look way realistic. The mech models are good but the lighting (the "rendering engine" is this was a game) makes them look like some ps3 games with the bloom all saturated and toy-ish looking. Also they use a full screen gradient filter that looks unnatural.

2. Live-action cinematography is standard PH telenovela, which is bad. High field of view in wide shots like in variety shows. No flow in the sequencing of shots. Almost as if no storyboarding was included in the production process.

3. Script and acting are a combination of too much and too little. Too much filler on scripts and too little effort put in the dialogue. Actors would probably act better under someone like Marilou Diaz-Abaya but unfortunately they're not.

Overall, it's better than most shows on PH tv in terms of CG, but only because that was a low bar to begin with.

If you have plans watching the cinematic version of Voltes V, kindly do not record the few scenes of the movie since it will be a serious offence and I stand against piracy. The thrill of watching inside a cinema was breathtaking, and it brings back memories of my favorite anime series.

Another tip, bring tissues since I almost cried into the first part and final scene. No matter what you're going into, this will give you the motivation to move forward and face the adversity in life. And please, stay for the post credits scene which will revolve the future of the series once it is aired on national TV.

Voltes V: Legacy - The Cinematic Experience will be extended until May 2, 2023. On May 8, 2023, Voltes V: Legacy will be aired on GMA after 24 Oras. No matter what generation are you from, scream it with me, together. Let's Volt In!

Not worth the wait.
alreyouano10 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The attempt to recreate the anime may be seen in the effort, but still lack the opportunity to give it a real feel. The scenes are repeatedly shown in the movie, like the first episode where steve was on his motorcycle going to and going back. It was really a turn off.

I think its much better to make a reboot of the anime that is an anime. There at least maybe we could choose between two animes and make a better version of the real adopted movie.

It has been hard to make a real version of the a cartoon or comic but there has been successful efforts done throught the years. We hope another version of this anime may be made with that effort.

SCAMMED BY COSTUME DESIGNER

1. This is what GMA 7 does. It spends way too much (350k each) on costumes that make the characters look uncomfortable in them. Whoever suggested characters need padding is not a good designer. The original animation did not have padded uniforms that constricted movement inside a cramped space.

Even the creators of The Flash had to change the main character's costume because of fan pressure. Creators realised they were losing viewership because deviating from the original superhero costume design was a bad idea.

2. Suzette Doctolero Ranillo needs to learn how pilots or how soldiers actually talk and use military lingo. The dialogue among the characters were often disconnected. There was no chemistry. What's worse is there is no continuity between scenes.

3. The whole thing banks on the special effects that are meh..
