Gripping Pilot Episode
sparklefish22 August 2023
Harlan Coben's Shelter successfully hooked me with this amazing pilot episode. Opening with a darkly mysterious backstory and then jumping ahead 25 years, the plot immediately grabbed my attention .

The main character, Mickey Bolitar, is good-natured and easy to like, and within fifteen minutes I already was invested in seeing what happens to him.

I love the NJ locations and the dialogue scenes set with background views across to New York City at night. It's atmospheric.

The pilot episode has a perfect balance of introducing the characters, setting the tone, and creating an air of suspense.

Sets the Table
Hitchcoc5 September 2023
It is going to take a while to figure out what is going on. A high school kid lives with his aunt after he and his family have been in a really bad car accident. He believes his father died and his mother is in the hospital, having no visitors. But somehow he is connected to a spooky old house where a woman people call the Bat Lady lives. Mickey actually talks with her and she says his father is still alive. He has met a couple of unconventional friends. He also met a girl who disappears. There was something in the backstory about several people hiding from authorities. It looks like some kind of cult with a heavy element of threat. The episode ends dramatically. It will be interesting to see where this goes.
