- During the height of the Black Lives Matter protests last year, multiracial Cinematographer/Producer, Andy Hodgson, felt compelled to start writing and directing stories that explored and shared the black experience. El Mulatto is the second in the series of shorts. The follow up to Leo Award Winning short, El Color Negro (2020). This film is an exploration of what it means to be born half black, half white. Being a multi-racial individual, like the Director, comes with its own set of challenges and inner conflict. Historically, a mulatto has been defined as: the first general offspring of a black and white parent; or, an individual with both white and black ancestors. Generally, mulattoes are light-skinned, though dark enough to be excluded from the white race.
