All the scenes featuring Elias Kane (Tim Bottaro) and the ending were filmed inside the Bancroft Building, an old school owned by Bishop Heelan Catholic High School. The building was completely demolished a few days after filming.
The story is set in Salix, Iowa and features scenes filmed in downtown Salix. Some scenes from Children of the Corn (1984), set in Gatlin, Nebraska, were also filmed in downtown Salix. Ironically, Cult of the Damned is a spoof of this film.
Alex Solsma (Richard Douglas) had no prior acting experience and was discovered by the producer at a carnival where he worked as a tilt-a-whirl operator.
Joe Clarke plays multiple roles in this film, including the man sacrificed at the beginning as well as several hooded cult members.
Timothy Bottaro (Elias Kane) is not the high priest of the Church of Satan as indicated in the opening titles. He is actually a personal injury attorney from Iowa.
