- Ed and Oucho's Excellent Inventions is a children's TV show, presented by Ed Petrie and his cactus companion, Oucho (performed by Warrick Brownlow-Pike). Children send in designs of inventions through a nationwide Invention Competition.
- Ed is our unlikely presenter invention builder without much knowledge of anything technical and Oucho is a cactus with no hands so plenty of opportunity for humor and parody. In each episode, they surprise a lucky kid by arriving on their doorstep ready to make the idea a reality. Kids put on the 'Brainstorm Helmet' and their ideas are magically explained as their own illustrations come to life. The inventions are pure whimsy, delightfully eccentric. Ideas like an ice-cream making bicycle, custard cannon and a car powered by lemonade could only sprout from the minds of youngsters. However, in this world, they are taken seriously and proven to be entirely workable and useful. The science behind the invention is explored and explained through a variety of more unlikely characters often played by Ed himself in costume. Ed and Oucho get started building but usually want to rush through the process so that they can get on with eating cake. The young inventor turns out being the voice of reason and in the second half of the show learning's are taken on board and an impressive build begins. Where this show varies from the original is that there is very little child involvement in the build. Comedy and banter between Ed and Oucho drive the entertainment with buckets of comedy drawn from the most ridiculous situations. The show ends with a bang and a fulfilling demonstration of the working invention. This is the second UK version of Let's Get Inventin' licensed to the BBC and created by Luke Nola.
