Different, but not in a bad way.
ahmadz83911 November 2022
My goodness, things are getting crazy. After last week's slight slowdown in pace, this episode's sudden escalation caught me off guard. "What About Bob?" makes a 180-degree turn and is non-stop action. Though it may disappoint some viewers, I feel the series has struck a good balance. My only gripe so far is that every challenge our protagonists have faced up to this point has been relatively simple to overcome, and it's high time the stakes were raised, and they faced a real setback. It felt a little light on the Sci-Fi aspects, but that may improve next week. The episodes' director, Vincenzo Natali, warrants praise for the stellar sequences at the bowling alley and the bridge.

Rating: 7.6/10 (Impressive)

I hope Ned Dennehy'a character becomes a regular
markwha11 November 2022
So this is by far the best episode yet, largely in part due to Ned Dennehy's guest starring in it. I've always loved the Irish versions of Clint Eastwood that he's played over the years. I really hope that this character becomes a regular on the show and not just a one off episode with him as he can bring a lot to the table!

This episode has lots of action and progresses/thickens the story and plot in places where it should have in the previous 4 episodes. I hope this sets the new tone and pace for the series moving forward - it was genuinely getting hard to watch up until now. This is the first episode that's been able to grab my attention and keep it for the entire runtime and for the first time I'm wishing we had the whole season instead of the weekly trickle. Despite some great action sequences, there were a couple things that made me roll my eyes and likely have a lot of other viewers scoffing as well - I'll keep this spoiler free but for those who read this after watching... I'd sure love to know what kind of vest that was...

They finally turned up the fire and graphic stuff to where it should be, which is a big and positive change from the first episodes. We're also finally getting some proper info on some of the characters backstories which is also making things much more interesting.

Would be a 7/10 but extra points for Ned!

Well, that ending felt a bit rote...
Wm_Gardner11 November 2022
Some of the episode still felt fresh but the face-off at RI?!?!? It's sort of like the Pacino-DeNiro scene in Heat. Just an opportunity to put the show's two big players on the screen at the same time.

As a reader of the source material, I can't say I'm fond of this whole "Research Institute" facet to the storyline. It's invented whole cloth, not at all a part of Gibson's novel. I strongly dislike the leader of the Research Institute. Which that maybe the desired reception of the character, I dislike her even more for the intrusion upon and minimization of Lowbeer's role. Don't get me wrong, I like T'Nia Miller's performance, but I hate the character. Lowbeer is just such a great character though and much of her role from the book seems to now be attached to Miller's character.

Glad they cleared that up!

Warning: Spoilers
I couldn't figure out what Flynne had taken from the future that necessitated her and her family being killed. I went over the first ep, her first visit, and could not ascertain any moment when she saw anything or took anything!

Her confrontation with Cherese in this ep cleared all that up. She saw nothing and took nothing! Nonetheless, Cherese is on a mission and her objective will not be altered. Flynne and family are still on her hit list.

As Burton said, this whole situation is getting harder to contain in the how's present day (2034 - should have made it 2064 just so in ten years the show will not be outdated). Maxine knows but I am not concerned about her. The sheriff however? Yeah... he's getting tuned in first to the cloaked cars, and now the empty suit assassin, AND a future weapon even if he does not know what it is. I am surprised he was left alive.

Too bad Cherese is in a stub (yes? Is that what they are called or a sub?) because Flynne kicked the s**t out of her!

A bit more of action...
jordymadueno4 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Now, we're entering a confrontational stage in which the leading role, that is, Flynne, starts confronting the threat which is Cherise. As usual, it needed a trigger and that's the assassin they hired. However, I was a bit surprised as I didn't expect them to get a new one after the disaster of previous attempts and because we still have Corbell in the game.

Anyhow, we are seeing how the secret is also being put to the test as Tommy is getting more involved and also because they had to tell their mother the truth. Well, almost most of it.

I liked that Billy as a character got into a new territory, that is, badass. I didn't expect that from her and now I'm thinking that she might play a key role in all of these. She is much more interesting than her husband, Jasper.

Oh, we also got a short view of the past to understand what Aelita was trying to get from the corporation and what was her relationship with Grace, rest in peace.

I'm not sure if I get it yet, but I think that the whole goal of the test of haptics in the past was to control the whole society in the future. Now, Burton's story of how he lost control of his body made more sense.

We also got to understand why Conner lost his legs and arm. It was all a setup from the corporation as they tested the haptics in the past. The same thing Lev wants to do, but with pharmaceutical stuff.

That makes me wonder. Flynne and Burton were already in a new parallel universe since the corporation changed the past by recruiting soldiers to test the haptics. I said so because I thought that this only started when Aelita sent the headset.

I'm also starting to think that they had something to do with the Jackpot's events that killed so many people.

Surprisingly weak episode
kislevido12 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's mid-show already and the world-building and characters are mostly thin. Personally I expected things will get clearer from now, or at least as interesting as before, but this episode had nothing to move the story, except maybe a hint (important one, was, but still just a hint) on the first scene. It's a shame, because this show wasn't bad at all until now, and given the reviews of those who has seen most of it already it will continue to be good, but this episode it's an unfortunate filler. I'm perfectly fine with slow shows (like Severance, Westworld (which I adore), or even Invasion which was horrifically slow), as long they have a story to tell in detail or an experience to put us through, but this episode was just a shooting-scene of 45m with no justification. Fast and Furious but... well, slow, and in a middle of an intelligent show. Idk, maybe I was expecting another Westworld, but so far it is flat and slow, not mind-bending in anyway, but at least entertaining. Anyway, really hope that like the preview show us it'll go better from here.

What About Bob?
bobcobb30110 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A much simpler episode here, in a lot of senses, and for me that is an improvement.

I love sci-fi shows, I have watched most of the great ones over the years, but the last few weeks have showcased a glaring flaw of The Peripheral where there is a bit too much going on.

Tonight they introduced a new character, gave him a very clear and familiar backstory and we saw some action and violence throughout. That is exactly the kind of thing I like to see in a TV show.

More episodes like this, and dialing back the nonsense a bit is what The Peripheral can do to appeal to a lot more fans in my opinion.

Illogical
jeroen-10611 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Why would evil guys from the future go through all the trouble of hiring local people to kill the good guys, if they are able to enter the past physically with invisible cars and futuristic weapons? Why wouldn't they just go and kill the good guys themselves?

In this episode the hit man fails and then gets stopped by an invisible car. It makes no sense. It's super inefficient and very poor writing.

I also wonder why the 'future folks' would go through so much trouble (in the end of last episode) in creating a dramatic 3D holographic presentation just to tell the protagonist what happened to Earth?

Is that a futuristic PowerPoint they keep on the shelf in case they randomly onboard someone from the past? Did they hire animators, a creative director and sound designers in the future just to please the occasional individual who hasn't witnessed the apocalyps? It's lame - it takes me out of the story.

It's a nice show with strong elements, but they need to constrain themselves more to certain rules to maintain a realistic world.

Not as advertised
berkinet16 November 2022
Rather than saying "based on the book by William Gibson," it would have been far more honest to say, "based on characters and situations created by William Gibson." This show has now drifted so far from the story in the book as to no longer be recognizable. At that is a pity. The basic story in the book, even trimmed down to it's core was for more interesting and engaging than this crude Matrix like sci-fi mystery. Where the book was intellectually deep, this film uses violence and the suspense of an ongoing chase scene to hold the viewer's attention. All they seem to be missing is Bruce Willis.

Insufferable
h_pt_115 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Television as a pageant. Dramatic expression reduced to posturing and confused with mere cinematography. The show runners main concern is obnoxiously made manifest in their obsession with settings and scenery. Acting seems rushed and is becoming atrocious.

Last episode introduced the unbearable Cherise character naively explaining future society with four bread slices. Maybe it was meant to be some sort of comic relief. Of course we were headed to a foolish physical confrontation between her and Flynne. It's just the way Joy and Nolan work. Of course Conner's predicament is a consequence of the evil CEO's actions. And they send an assassin armed with a silly non lethal weapon so that Flynne immediately recognizes it, although they have perfect active camouflage at one's disposal.

And they keep up with "hack" my system and I'll "hack" you back. How naive their worldview is...

An unforgivable mess.

Ridiculous
sd-lister11 February 2023
I can suspend disbelief to a degree, but an old man taking point blank pistol and shotgun rounds to the chest without broken ribs and massive internal damage is a bridge too far. Body armor that defies physics can't exist in any timeline. The plot holes are starting to grow a bit as well, though I won't mention anything specific here to avoid spoilers, but one of those invisible, indestructible SUV's could certainly fit into one of the holes. I like the show, but I hope the lazy writing doesn't persist. I'd rate the first four episodes much higher, so this one was definitely a disappointment. Fingers crossed episode 5 is just an anomaly.

It is a Good series but This one is the weakest episode potential cause of lazy writting. I hope they don't repeat
etisyardimci5 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Weakest episode of potential good series because of lazy writting. I hope they don't repeat.

One of main problem bothers me in this episode is how Aelita learn about Research Institute operations. Why does someone want to show highly secured area to a girlfriend or boyfriend? For instance, if I had boyfriend or girlfriend at USmint,Could I enter where mint money?

Where Grace shows Aelita about RI operations, Simply Grace doesn't have good motivation to show her. This makes disappointing about show because Most of Aelita story build on this moment. In additon to this, while they are leaving building,Aelita says "I'd kill for eyes like that" to Mariel Raphael. What the hell? Why? Shut up Aelita and leave building at low profile so don't get too much attention. Cringe moment.

In the end it is good series but I hope they don't ruin it by missing or ignoring such crucial moments.
