Be my surprise
sandover10 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
In the beginning I was bored or felt awkward. That is somewhat unfair, the film being a short, but something was so stiff and stifled between the two of them: I thought her beauty had something masculine with her square jaw and tight skin, and Darryl Stephens looks so gay in especially the last scene, and somehow this did not go together, something was queer and you know what? SPOILER ALERT!!! he is and so is she!

In the last scene, when a proposal is at hand, each of them gets up to his other half, that actually is of the same sex, and off-screen for what came before. That is the big surprise: even cowgirls and cowboys get the interracial blues: this exposes the fact that interracial, or class anxieties are the true difficult stuff, and not general gender agendas. (Even though, arguably, the film was shot with the invert motive, but surprises have their own ends.)
