A fun comedy with a lot of action

Warning: Spoilers
An amusing comedy about a guy who finds out his father is alive and goes on the quest to find him. Looking through other reviews it seems to be a common formula for Turkish movies. But since I don't know many Turkish movies, I just started watching them recently thanks to Netflix, it wasn't predictable to me. So I recommend it to foreigners like me who are looking for a funny movie.

It seems like it was a success since there are two sequels. And this isn't surprising because it is very funny and also has great actors in it. The main guy is played by Ata Demirer who brings us to laugh all the time and Firuzan who helps him finding his dad by Demet Akbag who shows a lot of talent as well.

It is all lighthearted humor without any drama. That keeps it fresh. One of my favorite scenes is when Firuzan is having a photo shoot and Huseyin gets drunk and says what is wrong with it. Another is when he looks for his father and sees the guy in the cheese store who looks like him. These are just two of the fun scenes, the whole movie is full of them.

An entertaining comedy, albeit a formulaic one.

Warning: Spoilers
When "Eyyvah eyvah" hit the theaters in early march a lot people were of the opinion that that it was one of the best recent comedies and the same people were comparing it with the latest Ivedik movie. I wasn't able to see the movie in the theaters back then but I have wondered whether it was a movie that could be compared to Recep Ivedik. In my humble opinion such a comparison is not exactly fair. Recep Ivedik is the ultimate the quintessence of quaintness. No matter how uncultivated, indelicate and aggressive he seems, the people saw a spark of resemblance in him to the members of the society they lived in. Eyyvah eyvah is Ata Demirer's first scenario. As one of the most popular stand-up comedians in Turkey,he is associated with comedy. He is mostly famous for his celebrity impressions. Demirer plays the clarinet player Hüseyin Badem this time.Living with his grandparents in Çanakkale, a seaport on the coast of the Dardanelles, Hüseyin seeks joie de vivre in his penchant for clarinet and his romantic feelings for the nurse Müjgan (Özge Borak.) One day he happens top find a letter in his grandmother's trunk. The letter is addressed to her late mother from his father. When he realizes that his grandparents lied to him about his father, he ends up in Istanbul to find his father. The only one he knows in Istanbul is his family acquaintance Ramiz(Bican Günalan)who is a dressmaker for the nightclub performer Firuzan (Demet Akbağ). When Hüseyin meets Firuzan, a series of comical actions ensue.

Hakan Algül's movie is as fun as it gets. The acting in the movie and the chemistry between Demirer and Akbağ are just fine but the Turkish cinema should just give up on its old habits. The scenario that Demirer wrote is heavily formulaic and predictably structured. How many times have we seen orphan boys who take a wow to find their long-lost fathers? How many times have we seen mothers who hide their pregnancy from the men they love? It has been done many times over and over again and it's just not that. When Hüseyin meets Firuzan, you can guess from the get-go that he will play in Firuzan's team. The pure predictability is the basic impediment for a comedy to reach its full potential. If all the dialogs except the witty parts in a comedy sound just cut-and-dried,you can't prevent it from being contrived and formulaic. Take Ivedik, for instance. No matter how uncultivated and risqué it is,one of the reasons why it did better at the box-office(than at least some fifty Turkish movies) is because of the unplanned, uncalculated and spontaneous nature of the comedy. Eyyvah eyvah sounds witty, funny and entertainingly, strikingly clever at some points but the rest of the movie sounds just ordinary, like some commonplace comedy based on deliberately predictable, clumsy actions and humorously embarrassing events.

best turkish comedy movie
onderpamukogluu-7690214 July 2021
It is the first film of a comedy film series set in the northwest of Turkey.

You definitely need to watch it. Especially the characters in the movie and the dialect spoken by the characters are reflected as in real life.

A clichéd comedy of out-of-place stand-up routines and staid plotting...
cgyford25 October 2010
Turkish TV and film director Hakan Algül ("Döngel Kârhanesi" & "Avrupa Yakası") re-teams with comedian Ata Demirer ("The Ottoman Republic" & "Avrupa Yakası") under the auspices of comedy impresarios Yılmaz Erdoğan and Necati Akpınar for this plodding comedy thriller which is one of the highest grossing Turkish films of 2010.

Village boy Hüseyin (Ata Demirer) leaves behind his doting grandparents and burgeoning romance with a local beauty to head off to Istanbul in search of his estranged father, who he tracks down with assistance of an old family friend and a popular night club singer (Demet Akbag) before being plunged into a clichéd comedy crime caper.

Golden Orange-winning film and theatre actress Demet Akbag ("Tersine Dünya" & "Vizontele") slums it in this re-teaming with "Vizontele Tuuba" bit-player Ata Demirer which sees the two constantly at odds as the miss-matched comedy duo at the head of a cast which includes a superb double act from Tanju Tuncel and Salih Kalyon as well as the beautiful Özge Borak.

Kicking-off with a painfully clichéd plot point the subsequent film has little driving force and flounders painfully as the writer-star is forced to run out various observational comedy routines from a staid stand-up act to inject comedy into an otherwise moribund storyline which has degenerated long before the stars are blundering around pretending to be blind in order to escape the mob.

"God! You've blown my mind at this hour of morning, bum fluff! "

Eyyvah Eyvah is so good movie.

Warning: Spoilers
Eyyvah Eyvah 1 is so good movie. Hüseyin (Ata Demirer) showed really great performs. In fact , the movie was so funny and good with cast's high performs but I think Firuzan was too hyperactive. I guess, she could be more calm. Then, Ramiz should went bank, should't went horse race. And I think children watch this movie,it could be bad example for children. In my opinion,Ramiz is going to amusement park, forest etc... Eyyvah Eyvah can be good for bored and nervous people.I am thanking Ata Demirer,Demet Akbağ,Tanju Tuncel and Hakan Algül because the movie is wonderful.
