The two things I've learned from this show about the British aesthetic is:

1. Man, they love Marilyn Monroe. Every other house seems to have at least one Marilyn Monroe print hanging on the wall.

2. Nearly every homeowner, when asked about his or her vision, says they're going for the "wow factor."

Other than those two annoyingly repetitive aspects, standard but satisfying design-show fare.

Pretty darn good, as competitions go

The first episode of this series piqued my interest in architectural housing-styles, and I got hooked. There are some stunning homes on display here--many of them are far different from the usual luxury stereotypes. I didn't find the designer/judges to be overly snobbish, although my preference would've been to keep this series as an informational one rather than a competition---after all the incredibly hard work some these homeowners have put into the houses, they shouldn't be pitted against each other. During the series 1 closing-show hype, when asked how he felt about being chosen as a runner-up, one owner frankly showed his displeasure at being outvoted--way to dampen a party.) Still, the series is worth a watch, to see some really one-of-a-kind homes.

Not much imagination -- on the part of who picked the homes

I will say the homes are a all well done. That being said all of them are distinctly contemporary/modern design. The three designers give me feeling of snobbish and pretentious and rubbed be the wrong way. If you are in love with modern design than this is your show.

Horrendous editting

The editting in this show is absolutely horrendous. They dragged this sucker out so painfully. We skipped so much of the repetitiveness and still were annoyed by all the repetition. I'm not surprised this show wasn't renewed. The premise was good but execution was a fail.
