You do wonder if they actually knew what they were doing last season because this season opener takes a bit of a handbrake turn.Leah, who was lying injured last season, appears for about twenty seconds to show that she's okay then just disappears in favour of yet more scenes of Belle being a victim and Aden and Irene practising their sad faces. Melody is blamed for something that was Kane's fault, with Jai giving a recap of events that bears little resemblance to what actually happened(and Miles shows an amazing lack of concern for her after finding out she was at the formal), and someone seems to have edited the recap to make it look like Angelo killed Jack.
Once you get past that, there's some good stuff here.Lots of people get to play the hero, although Aden doesn't seem to have much interest in helping out once Belle's safe and the rescue boys just seem to leave Kane to burn.There's a subtle bonding moment between Geoff and Jai, while Kirsty significantly seems to choose to help Miles over Kane. Nicole takes charge in a crisis and Angelo seems to achieve partial redemption for his recent actions by saving the widow of the man he accidentally killed.
Talking of which, Jack lies undiscovered at the development site for most of this opener.Tony's final discovery of him looking rather dead is well-acted but it means we get a cliffhanger almost identical to the last episode.
