Mr Sunshine...yay

After his previous attempt at returning to TV in Aaron Sorkin penned drama 'Studio 60' was axed it was no surprise to see Matthew Perry return to comedy.

And this show, set in a sports arena, was a lot of fun. This pilot is perhaps a fine example of this show at it's best.

Perry is ably supported by Allison Janney as his crazy boss, and there are lots of good (very Matthew Perry-esque) jokes.

The problem this episode and indeed the series faced though was that although we understand the trigger for his drive to become a better man, no real reason why Perry's character was so down and out in the first place.

I like this show though, and this episode was a good start.

No more Chandler, please

Warning: Spoilers
First of all, I did like Friends, but it's over, we don't need to have spin offs with the same characters over the place. I didn't laugh during the pilot. It wasn't terrible, but it was Chandler all over the place, and I've seen Chandler for 10 years (and more, to the point where I can't stand Friends anymore), so I was looking for something new. Maybe it'll get better some day.

Also, dear show writers, please stop putting Hugo in episodes, he isn't gonna bump the ratings (though he didn't suck on this one like he did on How I Met Your Mother)

I guess I'll be watching the show for 2 or 3 more episodes to see it evolves, but if it stays just like the pilot it'll be canceled before season 1 ends, just like it happened with Running Wilde, a pathetic show that tried to copy stuff from Arrested Development (same creator) and failed miserably, but seemed to be loved by IMDb users (no offense)

This new Matthew Perry vehicle sees him play Ben, the manager of the Sunshine Center Arena in San Diego.

It is Ben's 40th birthday. He is committed to his job, selfish and alone. He has a casual relationship with Alice, who is about to dump him.

His boss, the owner of the arena, Crystal (Allison Janney) is rather odd and maybe even crazy. She wants Ben to employ her son who she knows little about.

Ben has to fix everything and on his birthday he needs to melt the ice hockey rink so the circus can perform. There is also an elephant on the loose.

Perry became famous and rich on Friends. He also had lots of issues, you can see his body going up and down in weight as Friends went on.

In Mr Sunshine, Perry is back doing comedy. Perry co-created the show and co-wrote the first episode. I suspect he did not write any of the jokes, as it not got any. I really did not find the pilot funny.
