There’s an in between zone that parents often look for if they’re easing their kids into horror. If they’re fans of the genre themselves, the urge to take the tykes from Scooby-Doo to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is very tempting. I was one of the fortunate ones who was allowed to cut out the middleman and dive right into the heady stuff. So it was then that I missed out on a great bridge between the two extremes, The Midnight Hour (1985), ABC’s successful bid to get the Thriller-crazy crowd on their side.
Originally airing November 1st as part of The ABC Friday Night Movie (really? There was no Thursday slot open to make it for Halloween?), The Midnight Hour fought off CBS’ Dallas for its first half and NBC’s Miami Vice for the back, but those shows weren’t the ideal demographic anyway – this...

Things are starting to get a little scary on Midnight, Texas. What started as a safe place for Manfred to hide has now turned into all sorts of trouble. In the second episode, titled "Bad Moon Rising," Manfred starts to see what's really going on in this town, and we get a taste of why it's so important that he stays.
Here's what happens in episode two of Midnight, Texas. It's a lot, so settle in.

The new trailer for Kong: Skull Island will be released during tonight's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, but in the meantime, we have the first international TV spot to keep us going. While it's sadly not in English, we do get to to see some never before seen footage of both the titular monster and some of the supporting cast. The fact that the action is set to "Bad Moon Rising" is obviously just a bonus. It remains to be seen what other surprises the full length trailer will have for us, but chances are that we're going to see some other iconic monsters going to war with King Kong. After all, the giant beast certainly isn't intimidated by the humans who visit his island, hence why he can be seen here staring down Samuel L. Jackson in what is no doubt going to be a pretty damn awesome confrontation.

The film that forever linked Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Bad Moon Rising" with Rick Baker's Oscar-winning effects work is on the road to being reimagined, as it's been announced that Universal Pictures is developing a remake of John Landis' An American Werewolf in London (1981), one of the genre's greatest blends of hair-raising horror and dark humor.
Deadline reports that Max Landis, son of John Landis, will write and is in negotiations to direct a remake of his father's An American Werewolf in London.
Skybound Entertainment's David Alpert (executive producer of The Walking Dead) and Robert Kirkman (creator of The Walking Dead) are producing the remake for Universal Pictures. Additionally, John Landis will executive produce the film, with Todd Garner and Matt Smith also on board as producers.
Further details are unknown at this time, but we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated as more news is revealed. In the meantime,...

Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys, you’d better not be toying with my emotions!
I can’t be the only one who let out a long and enthusiastic “squeeeeee!” as the newcomers to The Voice‘s coaching panel casually proposed a joint record label and national tour to promote their very promising Season 11 artists.

It's bad enough to be a werewolf, hunted by the light of the full moon. But to be a foreign werewolf? That's beyond cruel. An American Werewolf in London squirms with comic unease from the get-go, and almost immediately from its release 35 years ago — August 21st, 1981 — the bipolar horror-comedy has been celebrated on two impressively different fronts: as a landmark in startling makeup effects that legitimized the gross-out, and as a riotous piece of fish-out-of-water college humor. Calling the film a sick joke is perfectly apt. It's a sweaty, shuddery experience,...

I’ve always had a thing for games set in rich, open world environments, where there’s lots to see and do. Grand Theft Auto is an obvious leader in this category, as are games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim, but those aren’t the only such titles that have hooked me. Other notable releases — like Just Cause 2, Bully, Saints Row: The Third, Saints Row IV and Mafia II — have as well, with the latter being a game that I’ve tried to champion since launch. Why? It’s always felt under-appreciated, and that’s bugged me.
This summer will mark six years since Mafia II hit store shelves, and it’s only fitting that we’ll soon receive a sequel. A follow-up that I cannot wait to get my hands on, and one that is easily at the top of my most anticipated list. Hell, just the idea of Mafia III existing had me excited.

Alex Greenfield and Ben Powell, the writing duo behind Frightfest flick The Sand – which is due for VOD release in the UK from the Frightfest/Icon Film shingle Frightfest Presents on October 19th – have scored second place in the prestigious 2015 ScreenCraft Horror Screenplay Contest behind Scott Hamilton & Pj Hamilton’s script, a werewolf tale entitled Bad Moon Rising.
Beating out over 1,000 other submissions, Greenfield and Powell’s script for Plague Ship tells the story of a newly married couple whose honeymoon becomes a nightmare when a deadly plague breaks out on their luxury cruise ship. The pair must do anything and everything to keep each other safe, both from infection and from the ship’s crew, who have decided that slaughtering passengers is the only way to keep the plague from spreading.
I’ve had a sneak peek at the screenplay and it’s safe to say I was hooked from page one.
