Quite funny but too slight
Red-Barracuda21 June 2010
This ultra low-budget documentary follows music producer Steve Sale try to become a real-life superhero. He creates a character, designs a costume and writes a theme tune. He meets other 'superheroes'. He becomes a local celebrity. He even catches a shop-lifter.

This documentary is fun up to a point. While the overall idea for the project is quite amusing, with some funny moments, there just isn't enough interesting material garnered along the way to keep things ticking along in a wholly satisfying manner. Steve Sale is a nice guy and I was very much on his side but I was often hoping something really memorable would happen. But sadly, too much of the time it was simply Steve just mucking around with very little overall purpose. There does seem to be a potentially interesting story in here though, but it's not Steve, it's the other somewhat strange men who are professional superheroes. Most notably Master Legend, a Florida based superhero who cleans the streets of drug dealers, child molesters and rapists – a good thing but it is left a little unclear how he actually achieves this admirable goal. Perhaps a documentary about characters such as this would have been more interesting.

This is a silly but not unenjoyable documentary. It's just too slight and meandering for its own good though. Nothing much, in truth, actually happens and that is ultimately a bit of a problem. Good for a few chuckles at the very least though.

Superb

Loved this film! Super Size Me meets Superheroes. I'm not normally a watcher of documentaries but found this film funny and gripping throughout. The fact their are real life superheroes in the world was news to me, regardless of having super powers. Hats off to the maker, as this film was made with no budget but definitely has a big heart beating behind it. My favorite part is when SOS is searching from crime in London and a lady comes up to him and says she can't find a boyfriend cos all men seem to be gay in the area. She asks SOS to use his powers and make the gay men straight for her, SOS replies "I'm not going to make them straight, look at me!" SOS's exploits are very funny, but when he travels to the US to meet up with a real life superhero called Master Legend, the film changes tone and takes a more serious approach for the need of a costumed crusader in areas of Florida. Not sure when this film is to be released fully but I highly recommend it!
