It's alright, but same old problems
prometheus1987026 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode ain't that bad but suffers from a bit of repetition of plots done before.

Barry starts aging rapidly due to some energy wave, joe has a tough time moving forward with his life and has difficulties to adjust with new things in his life as pointed out by, David Singh, making his first appearance on the show since S6 i guess.

Both those parts are resolved. The former being resolved by science(which i haven't understood since s6) and speed, the latter by a pep talk which was not that bad actually.

Inconsistencies being that Barry, in the beginning, could have immediately stopped that mad scientist without getting blasted with that energy wave.

The moment Cecil talks or makes expressions, I feel like popping my eyes out. She has equalled Allegra in cringe levels.

The plot starts off nice but becomes less interesting as it moves on as it is the same thing that Barry has faced such as forgetting things by using more speed(Flashpoint) and afraid of losing everyone around him because he feels he doesn't have enough timetime to live (just before crisis).

Barry also finds out Caitlin is trying to revive frost and tries to convince her not to do it but is unable to and hence destroys Caitlin's lab. This is not gonna sit well with her.

Some good cgi effects were there.

Underwhelming episode just like the previous one. Eric Wallace is a low class showrunner and his writers probably can't write a proper 5 year old cartoon either.

Overall: 7/10

Next episode is mostly going to be about Allegra as per what Eric Wallace has said. Don't know his obsession with that character or with interlude episodes. I saw the promo and weirdly enough, Allegra wasn't even in it lol. Instead we got things which we always wanted to see, that is, lian yu and thawne.

But I'm sure that is going to be an average or bad episode as well. I probably have to see the next episode just because of thawne appearing otherwise had it been completely about Allegra I would have skipped it.

Disappointed!!
larzola289 June 2022
Just disappointed in how he did Kaitlin, but yet he always expects everyone to back when he wants to break the rules. I think he could've handled that differently shouldn't be double standard, can end series this year.

Really, Barry?
Anonnamus17 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
One of the reasons I truly believe this show has gone downhill is because of the personality of the protagonist. Barry's inability to consider anyone else's ideas or to do something other than what Barry wants is getting tiresome. Do as he says, not as he does. Barry's martyr and hero complex is becoming unbearable. How he could treat Caitlin like he did at the end was absolutely disgusting. Sure, it probably wasn't the best idea Caitlin has had, but destroying her entire apartment and then running off? I'd quit Team Flash on principle and let them use a hospital any time someone gets hurt.

Joe seems to have been shoved aside to become a background character, only coming out occasionally to spout off an inspirational line or two. Since retirement, he just seems lost and it almost feels like The Flash producers are in the process of phasing him out. I don't want him to leave, but I honestly don't see any reason why he's there anymore since he is no longer the police captain.

Chester does his sciencey stuff so I guess he's useful, but I honestly have no idea why Allegra is a part of Team Flash. She uses her powers like once a season so it's not like she's a superhero. Forcing her and Chester together in a romance is just nauseating and weird to watch considering they have zero chemistry.

Since when did Cecile become a field agent? I realize I'm in the minority but I actually like her character. I just don't understand why she's suddenly becoming more prominent and why we are suddenly seeing new abilities she never seemed to have before.

Please, please, please do something soon with Caitlin's character. She was once one of my favorite characters but she has been completely neutered the last few seasons, taking a backseat to Frost. She suddenly lost her personality or any trait that made her a key member of TF. Is she leaving the show also? I don't want to see her as an enemy of TF, I hope she doesn't go down that route though Barry would 100% deserve it.

As a whole, I have enjoyed this season but the series has more than shown visible signs of aging. I like the unique storyline but I truly think that the show needs a major character overhaul. Let's hope the end of the season ends on a high note.

It was a good episode between awful episodes since season 6 but I expect more from The Flash I really don't like when ciciel said run barry you should stop using some characters like chunk Allegra and Cecile no one like this characters remember season 1 with Cisco and Caitlin they were amazing you should bring back Cisco and Caitlin to work and stop using Allegra chunk and Cecile.

Season 1 greatness all round

Felt like I was back in 2014 during this episode. I was not expecting to this invested in a flash episode ever again. I hope the rest of the season can keep it up.

A season 1 episode on season 8
premierleaguefoda26 May 2022
Finally some focus in the ogs, Barry and Joe. This was an episode where all the storylines were interesting, and it truly felt like I was watching season 1. I can't wait for the next episode!!

Not terrible But reminds me why I stopped
megaruda25 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The episode is average. At lesst theres a concept as opposed to all over the place as most eps this season.

That being said the ending was beyond cringy. Stopping Frosts resurrection was beyond forced. It made no sense, but beyond that it reminded me why I stopped watching the show for a couple of seasons.

The flash as a character I hate it, Barry Allen in this show is written in a way in which he faces no consequences for his hipocrisy, he is allowed to screw it up and literally kill other peoples family members while trying to resurrect his own, but whenever one of his friends tries to do the same he comes in yelling YOUVE GOT TO LEARN TO LET GO LIKE I DID 1 EPISODE AGO. And then he does the same next season, it became a hipocrisy loop. I hated the protagonist and this episode reminded me why, most people hate Iris becos idk misogyny? I dont mind Iris existing, can't stand the cringy protagonist. I used to like Flash during the first couple of seasons before he destroyed lives for his own hedonism and faced 0 consequences.

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result
demigodshmurda26 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
That, my friends, is the definition of "insanity". And WOW is that an accurate depiction of what it feels like to watch this show!

No bingo this week, but I did get one last week, so that brings my record to 3 and 13. Though I will say that if Deon isn't the main villain for this next arc, that will bring my bingo total to 2 and 14 since I crossed off "Non-Speedster Main Villain" on account of him seeming to turn evil out of nowhere last week.

I'll try to keep this short since this episode just recycles old ideas that the show's already done. Barry using his speed causes him to grow older and older this episode, which isn't dissimilar to him using his speed causing him to lose his memories faster and faster in the season 3 premiere "Flashpoint". Barry learning to enjoy the time he has left is something he'd more than learned already by the final showdown with Bloodwork in "The Last Temptation of Barry Allen, Pt. 2", and was even what Barry used to distract Bloodwork and trap him in that same episode. And... Nope, that's actually everything this episode does. Sure, there's a plotline with Joe, but it's completely irrelevant and disconnected from the main arc, and even disconnected from every other side plot, so that's new I guess? Look, I'm really reaching here. This episode just isn't very interesting.

And speaking of not very interesting, let's talk about Barry not taking out Orloff at the first sign of him showing up this episode. Some of you may recall a moment in this season's best episode "The Fire Next Time" where Barry won a fight very easily by knocking Jaco Birch, aka The Hotness, off his feet. Even the top of this episode features Barry saving a bunch of people and stealing someone's gun, replacing it with a banana. Writers, you can't play that card and then have Barry not do that whenever you need an episode to happen. I can count the number of times Barry could've done that exact thing to Orloff this episode on TWO HANDS!! I'll admit that I haven't watched Madvocate's "The Flash is Insufferably Inconsistent" series because I'd still like to enjoy the first few seasons of the show, but his videos call this kind of stuff out for a reason! It's almost like the writer of this episode was so angry at the writer of "The Fire Next Time" for having Barry seem relatively competent using his powers that they wrote this episode out of sheer spite! And whoever wrote that intro scene was definitely a different person than whoever wrote the rest of this episode because, and I can't believe I'm about to say this, The Flash is Insufferably Inconsistent!

In terms of the new developments with Caitlin's storyline, I'll admit that I like that the writers acknowledged that the path Caitlin's going down is very dark and a legitimate crime against humanity! Grant Gustin's clearly too done with the show to give a look of genuine horror at what Caitlin's doing right now, but if the show tackled this story three or four years ago, I have full confidence that his performance would be much more expressive. If it were me though, I wouldn't have had Barry destroy her definitely-not-a-home-meth-lab, and just said that he and the rest of the team won't support what she's doing, and then leave. Then when Caitlin does bring Frost back, she's a mindless corpse that becomes a villain for an episode, and we get to see Killer Frost with her flowing white hair, stark white pupils, and her flowing blue dress attacking the city as a callback to the shot of that exact thing happening in the time travel sequence from season 1's finale "Fast Enough". That would be a really cool way to make this plotline have real stakes!

I will admit though, this episode started off really promising. Barry gets to be smart and use his powers to help people, and then we see him playing DnD with the rest of Team Flash, and it was a genuinely really fun scene! It was in this scene where I had a legitimate smile on my face! And then we see Barry getting to do some super speed with his CSI work, and it was another really great scene where we get to see Barry doing both of his jobs together! Why can't the writers write more scenes like that? Oh, because it's a CW show? Alright, fair enough.

Also, I don't like Cecile at all, I'm very mad that the show is so picky with when she's in everyone's business and when she isn't. Like, just a few episodes ago in "Phantoms" she was constantly using her powers to read everyone's minds (and the show can never decide if she has mind reading powers like in seasons 4 and 5, or emotion manipulating powers like in season 7, they flip back and forth on an episode-by-episode basis), not giving too craps about everyone's privacy, but in this episode she doesn't use her powers once? Why?? You've clearly shown that she has no qualms about doing this before, so why is it a problem for her to do so in this episode? Why does she have to ask Barry face-to-face what's wrong with him when she has no problem reading everyone else's minds? Oh, because we need to talk about Alzheimer's and have a legitimately good scene where Caity Lotz' directing was actually able to make Grant cry on command about his character possibly forgetting Iris before he's able to save her? Wow, what an incredibly specific reason, but yeah, I'll let you have that one, because that was a legitimately good scene. Doesn't make Cecile any more of a consistent character though!

And... Nope, that's everything that happens in this episode. That is it. And through this review, I have said absolutely nothing new! I have added exactly zero new things to the conversation around this show!

  • Barry isn't allowed to be good at crimefighting because all the episodes would end too early? Talked about by many people, and most recently joked about by Zach Star Himself in his comedy sketch "The Flash but it's consistent".

  • Cecile is an inconsistent and pointless character? Talked about at length by G. I. Gio in his video "Did The Flash Armageddon Save The Show?".

  • There are too many filler episodes and not enough episodes devoted to crafting worthwhile villains? Also not an uncommon statement to hear in this fandom, and Eric Wallace thinks he can get away with it because he gave Bloodwork an eight episode arc and made it work. Though it does seem to be lost on Eric Wallace and the writers just why Bloodwork was as good of a villain as he was.

  • This show will never be what it once was? Said on a daily basis by a large percentage of this show's remaining fanbase.

So I guess on top of a completely pointless episode, I have written a completely pointless review! So if you're still reading this thing, I have something to propose: Is the season better than season 7? Yes. Absolutely. I will willingly rewatch any episode from this season over that crime against television any day of the week! But you can only say the phrase "It's better than season 7" so many times before you have to admit that that doesn't make this season any GOOD!

4 / 10.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm not gonna lie, after last week's "interlude" episode being as good as it was I didn't think they would have another supposed interlude episode be on par with that, but I was so wrong. This episode in my opinion was arguably even better than last weeks episode. This episode had some emotional moments, some cool action sequences and dare I say it actually felt like a season 1 episode. I know Barry losing his speed isn't a new thing, it's happened many times before. However I thought this was a really interesting take on it, which I actually enjoyed. But my favorite part of the episode was definitely the ending. WOW! I was not expecting that at all. Overall this was another great episode in my eyes. 9/10 for me.

"You can't outrun time. You can only embrace it."

Warning: Spoilers
The sixteenth episode of the eighth season titled "The Curious Case of Bartholomew Allen" directed by the one and only Caity Lotz finds Team Flash in a race against time trying to save Barry from ageing rapidly by stopping a mad scientist from becoming immortal. I love how this episode pays homage to the David Fincher film "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." The scene where Barry blatantly destroys Caitlin's apartment to dissuade her from reviving Frost was unexpected and caught me off guard. Barry just inadvertently pushed Caitlin into full-on villain mode. How are they going to come back from that? To conclude, I am really enjoying these string of interlude episodes. They are vastly better than last year's batch of episodes. Not only did those episodes evoke a warm, wholesome, and comfy feeling in me, but it also further establishes Barry Allen aka the Flash as my all-time favorite television character. Grant Gustin's incarnation of Barry Allen will always be my favorite no matter what.

Final verdict: 10/10.

Good, except for the last part

Warning: Spoilers
I liked most of the episode. It was well acted, with moments of fun. I always like one-shots, aside from the main arc, and crazy scientists are the bread and butter of comics. Besides, I like to see Capt. Singh again.

But the ending? I understand Barry not wanting Caitlin to hold to a vain hope, but destroying her property and her work is disrespectful (and legally wrong). He is taking attributions that he has not, as he has no right to mess with Caitlin stuff or to force her to do anything. He can and should talk to her, he may call his mom, friends, whatever. But he has no right to decide things for her.

Good episode, enjoyable. The display of Barry's power is 10/10. It was pretty funny and I'm liking the tone. Tho I will say, the talking and pep talks are just becoming a bit much, but can't criticize this episode much, AND THE TEASER FOR NEXT EPISODE 😳😳
