- Kevin takes off to batting practice where he meets Eddie. Eddie is sure Kevin knows about him and Jackie. Jackie, still sober is trying to get through her probation. Coop has a hard time getting Eddie to agree to be his best man. Zoey throws a party for Nurses Appreciation Week. Kelly and Jackie tag team a trauma where Jackie is forced to confess her probation.—Anonymous
- Jackie wakes up with an aching back. Downstairs she tries to untangle Fiona's hair, but gets aggravated and quits. Grace feeds her sister vitamins. Jackie looks longingly at the pills.
Kevin practices at the batting cage. He called Eddie to meet him at 6 a.m. Kevin is fired up about something. He tells Eddie he can't look at Jackie lately because of all this "unspoken s---."
He thinks Eddie must know what he's talking about, but Eddie says he doesn't. Kevin angrily goes back to smashing baseballs.
Mrs. Akalitus gets news on the phone that Michelle Obama isn't coming. She protests, in vain, that she has very important people waiting for the First Lady. She takes her frustration out on Jackie when she comes to ask if her probation is up yet. It isn't. Jackie says she's at the end of her rope.
"Make more rope," Mrs. A tells her.
Jackie goes to the bathroom and contemplates Grace's Zanax. She takes all of them.
Mrs. A breaks the news to the VIPs waiting for Michelle Obama -- a bunch of overweight kids wearing shirts that say "No thanks, I'm full."
They don't seem all that upset at the news. One of them drops his apple.
Thor gives Cooper his share of their fantasy football winnings. "I thought this was going to be the worst year of my life, but between this and getting married it could be the half-worst, half-best year ever," Cooper says.
Thor asks who's going to be Cooper's best man. He got his braces off a week early. Cooper says he has to ask Eddie. Then he regroups and tells Thor he can't be his best man and sing at his wedding. Thor is placated.
Zoey comes to work with make-up and a button down blouse on. It's National Nurse's Appreciation week and she's throwing a party in the basement. Jackie thinks the week is patronizing, for people who are under-paid. Jackie and Sam aren't interested.
Eddie finds Jackie and tells her they have a problem and that he saw Kevin.
"He lured me into a small space, he had a bat, he was swinging it and he was talking about you," he says.
Jackie isn't concerned.
O'Hara announces an incoming trauma of a cab versus pedestrians. She asks Jackie to talk to the driver.
He's an old guy who was turning and says he didn't see them coming. He's sorry and concerned. He starts to feel faint. Jackie and Kelly get him to a stretcher and start to treat him for a collapsed lung. She asks Kelly to get the meds, then tells him she can't because she's on probation. She sticks a needle in the driver's chest to release the air. He's going to be OK.
Mrs. A tries to convince the chubby kids to eat raisins, and shows them the joys of whistling through the empty box. She notices two of her charges are missing.
Lenny wheels in a 32 year old woman who dialed 911 because she couldn't stop coughing.
"Nice day for a cabulance," Lenny says.
She says her name is Ruth and she can't stop coughing, but Jackie points out she just did. Lenny and Cooper look at her with scorn.
Cooper pulls Jackie aside for "something important."
He shows her his planned set up for his wedding. He wants her to be the wedding coordinator: pick up the cake and make sure people are seated, because people are scared of her. He plays the divorced mom card.
He says his fiancé Cricket reminds him of Jackie.
Down in the basement, Zoey waits for people to come to her Nurse's Appreciation party. She has balloons and decorations up. There's a giant spread of food.
Lenny comes down and eats the food. He can't tell what the celebration is for and Zoey is a little put out. Thor drops in and is much more interested in the fact he's singing at Cooper's wedding. He starts rehearsing.
Jackie asks O'Hara to refill Grace's prescription for her. O'Hara says if she's already taken them all, Grace is taking too many.
"She's not taking too many," Jackie says.
O'Hara understands that she means she took them. Jackie says please and leaves.
Cooper asks O'Hara if she's going to his wedding. When she says no, he asks if it's too painful. She announces she's definitely going.
Sam brings Ruth the Cougher some codeine. Jackie tries to counsel her not to go down the opiate path. She asks Ruth if she's sure she wants them. Ruth hands them over. Jackie immediately goes into the bathroom.
Kelly follows her, charged from saving the cab driver's life. He invites her to go out after work. He confesses that the fact she's on probation is his fault. He tells her the truth, that he covered for himself and Eddie and didn't name names.
He reiterates his invite. She says he just wants her to go out because he can hang stuff over her head. He offers that he might give her some dirt on him.
Jackie sees a text from Kevin telling her to call him. She pops the pills.
Cooper asks Eddie to be his best man, but he's turned off the institution of marriage all together, saying after a while someone will just come along and "f--- your wife." That, and Cooper has only known his girlfriend for three weeks. He turns him down.
Zoey is forlorn in her fancy basement party with nurse shaped cookie and cupcakes. A cop comes by and brings Zoey flowers. She thinks he's messing with her, but he says his mom and sisters are all nurses. He awkwardly compliments her jeans and sort of asks her out.
When he leaves, Thor reminds her about Lenny. She tells him he should be on "vocal rest."
Just them some interested partiers come in: the fat kids on the trail of sweets.
Cooper stops Eddie outside. Eddie's grumpy and just wants to go home. Cooper says he's 35 and tired of eating alone, which isn't the worst reason to get married. Eddie relents about being the best man.
Jackie stops by O'Hara's office. She tells her to close the door. She gives Jackie Grace's prescription. She tells Jackie she wants to help her.
"I will pay for rehab, which I think is a joke. I will take you to meetings, which I know you won't go to. I will send you on holiday to detox, although I know you'll be miserable," O'Hara says.
Jackie asks what other option there is.
"Or, I will prescribe what I think is best for you in your situation to help you get clean. Consider me a very fancy methadone clinic," O'Hara tells her.
Jackie asks if she's comfortable with that.
"Of course not," O'Hara says, but she wants things to be better.
Jackie says OK and thanks her, nearly tearing up.
Mrs. A finds the kids grazing at Zoey's party. "This is some real Hansel and Gretl s---," she announces, but she's pleased when one kid limits himself to just one cupcake.
Kelly takes Jackie to a comedy club where the comedian is struggling for laughs.
They order shots. She tells him he doesn't know her and the week before he started she was in a car accident. She says she might have taken 4 of the Fentanyl patches.
"I took six," he tells her. "And I've never been to Haiti."
She busts out laughing. The comedian is gratified.
