Jenn Harris and Matthew Wilkas in a scene from Gayby.
Gayby was first made as a 12-minute short film by director/writer Jonathan Lisecki. The premise of the short was fairly straight-forward (no pun intended) -- and a tad bit bizarre. Jenn (Jenn Harris) wants to have a baby so she solicits the help of her gay best friend Matt (Matthew Wilkas). He agrees to help, but she wants to conceive without the help of a turkey baster. Yup. You heard that right. She wants to conceive the old fashioned way: sex. Sex with her gay best friend.
After gaining traction at over a hundred film festivals, Lisecki decided to blow it up into a full feature-length film, and with the help of the short's two original stars, the film made its world premiere at this year's South by Southwest film festival in Austin -- and people liked it. They liked it a lot.

Wakefield, Nc - Deep in the woods of Raleigh, I felt the ghost of Glenn Gould. He’s been dead since 1982, but there he was at a grand piano playing the first of Bach’s The Goldberg Variations.
His body wasn’t hunched over the keyboard on his collapsible chair. He wasn’t humming away as he played. But it was unmistakably Gould. The keys of the Yamaha Dcfiiiapro were stuck in his iconic way. His music filled the classical music concert hall covered in maple and cherry wood.
How can this be? Who conjured the Canadian classical music genius? Zenph Sound Innovations figured a way to make dead fingers play. This isn’t merely a piano roll, fake stereo treatment or a new noise reduction that goes beyond Dolby.
There is no other way to describe the technological miracle except in spiritual terms. This is the closest we’ll...

We're never actually in the real world in "Play," a 20-minute short film that's part of the FutureStates series, which asks filmmakers to postulate on aspects of life in the coming decades. Instead, viewers glide through a series of verisimilitudes, peeling away layer after layer of virtuality. "Play," which was directed by David Kaplan, who co-wrote the film with Eric Zimmerman, takes the viewer through some of the most commonly-held tropes of modern video games, but turns them on their ear. So, it's the cute Japanese schoolgirl who's playing the violent urban mayhem game reminiscent of the "Grand Theft Auto" series.
Lots of criticism has cropped up around video games. The medium's been portrayed as a dangerously addictive habit, a seed for societal irresponsibility or the domain of pervy weirdos. It's also been looked as a social connector and as a generator of ethereal interactive landscapes full of possibility. With...
