“I’m Puerto Rican, Jewish, colored and married to a white woman — when I move into a neighborhood, I wipe it out,” Sammy Davis, Jr. jokes onstage in Sam Pollard’s feature biography of the legendary singer, dancer, actor and comic, which gets to the hard part right away. The racist jokes, his dimly viewed campaigning for Richard Nixon, the accusations of being a sell-out. His friendship with Sinatra and the Rat Pack, to some, made him look like a black man seeking white approval and at least some black audiences shunned him.

It's apparently taken a lot of time to finally untangle all the legal hullabaloo, but we're finally going to get a Sammy Davis, Jr. biopic off the ground, as all parties involved have come to an agreement on how to tell its story. Among the producers, in fact, is fellow musician (and friend) Lionel Richie. The biopic will be based on the memoir Yes I Can: The Story Of Sammy... Read More...

Chicago – Like improvisational jazz, the performance career of Don Cheadle has many moods, directions and shadings. For his latest film, he takes on the titles of co-writer and director, along with the lead role of music legend Miles Davis. This all comes together is the aptly titled “Miles Ahead.”
Cheadle applies a different kind of music biography spin, with a centerpiece story about Davis that operates as a mythical framework for the musician’s life story, told in a loose flashback format. The cinematic structure is jazzy and kinetic, and it moves forward with an energy all of its own, driven by the frenetic soundtrack of the man himself. As a director, Cheadle has crafted something outside the norm, a visual blend that could be at home within the florid sweep of a Miles Davis composition.

There's a semi-hidden Hollywood treasure in Deadpool. Uggams' entertainment career spans six decades, countless stages and screens. One which began at the ripe old age of 6 and includes a Tony, an Emmy and performances with icons like Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Charlton Heston. "I was a ham at 5, I was working at 6," Uggams, 72, tells People via a phone call from Chicago, where she is currently filming a guest arc on Empire.

The entertainer's great drive and perfectionism came from his massive insecurity
Sammy Davis Jnr was the complete entertainer. In an age of specialisation even in show business, the little black American was an outstanding night-club singer, comedian and dancer, and an able character actor when his enormous ego was under control.
Trained in vaudeville, he was equally effective in Broadway musicals and in the new media of movies and television. When he wrote his autobiography in his forties, he had already lived a full show business life and justifiably summed up his all-round career with the title Yes, I Can. Sammy Davis Jnr was one Jack of all trades who was master of all.
Born in New York, he came from a theatrical family and claimed to have begun his career at the age of three, making a first appearance on stage with his father and his uncle. Certainly he was in a movie,...

Lovelace, Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman's Linda Lovelace biopic starring Amanda Seyfried, has added some more star power to its ranks, thereby ramping up its lead over Matthew Wilder's Lovelace flick, Inferno, in the "classy" competition.
According to Deadline, Lovelace has recently added Eric Roberts as lie detector expert Nat Laurendi, Adam Brody as Deep Throat co-star Harry Reems, and Demi Moore as feminist icon Gloria Steinem (I can't wait to see that).
Of the two competing films about the ill-fated 1970s porn star, Lovelace boasts the more impressive cast. Besides Seyfried as the title character and the new big names, the film also features Hank Azaria as Deep Throat director Gerard Damiano, James Franco as Hugh Hefner and Peter Sarsgaard as Lovelace's abusive first husband, Chuck Traynor.
Also aboard this off-color trip to the '70s are Wes Bentley, Sharon Stone, Robert Patrick, Bobby Cannavale, Chris Noth and Juno Temple.

Chicago – When one considers that it is five-decades-old this year, the influence of the original “Ocean’s 11” is somewhat jaw-dropping. From the minute rumors started circulating earlier this week about an alleged Rat Pack movie starring George Clooney as Frank Sinatra and Angelina Jolie as Marilyn Monroe we smelled, well, a rat. Too good to be true? Of course it was.
Aside from the fact that the “Salt 2” talk is already cranking up (not to mention a busy schedule that includes “The Tourist” and possible turns as “Cleopatra” and “Maleficent”), the superstar Jolie casting sounded like some kind of a secret Freemason film dream to finally complete Jolie’s impossible leading man trifecta (Brad, Johnny and George).
