Very Identifiable
Sekho5 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this short. Luchito in love with his neighbor (Pedro Campos ufff hahaha) in Chilean dictatorship era, that is the main plot of the story and although I did not live in that time I felt very identified with the protagonist's life and what happened to me when I was his age.

Idenficable history but with a very sad ending (I was not very comfortable with that, why Luchito indifference?), although that detail is the first Chilean gay short I see (i do not think that there are more) and I enjoyed it, it's one of my favorites, the song of Gloria Benavides also gives a special touch. If you have the chance to see it then do it.

My vote: 10 stars.

Everyone needs good neighbours!

Sadly my sexy neighbour has put up a fence so I don't get to see as much of him as I'd like to anymore and alas I could never see in to his room anyway. If I could, then maybe this film would have been about me, though perhaps not in such extreme and dangerous circumstances. There was a lot to tell here and maybe it wasn't all clear.

Seems as if everybody can make it to Cannes these days Warning: Spoilers
"Blokes" is a 14.5-minute live action short film from 2010 and this one was directed by Marialy Rivas and she is also one of the two writers. Don't be fooled by the title as this is a Spanish-language short film from Chile, so you may need subtitles here. And as this little film is also included on the notorious "Boys on Film" series, it is of course a gay-themed film. It is the story of a teenage boy who seems to be spying on and attracted to his much older female next door neighbor, but the longer the film goes the more it becomes obvious that his attraction lies somewhere else. This little film scored a nomination at Cannes and was recognized by other awards bodies as well and I found this pretty shocking as it offers really nothing. The film's supposed strength and depth lies apparently in a scene where a grown-up man intentionally masturbates in front of a teenage boy, but this is probably not even the worst aspect which says a lot about the quality here. The worst is most likely the clumsy attempts by the writers to rush in political context and make this even a historically significant film with the very last film. Extremely amateurish if you ask me. I suggest you stay far away.
