Beautifully constructed but didn't say anything to me

Three friends are together on a night out; it appears to be a night tinged with a certain amount of melancholy or sadness. As we see their night play out, a woman narrates.

There is a certain lyrical beauty in this short film for sure; it looks great and the tone of the piece is reflective and thoughtful in terms of the narration, the score and the way it is shot. This much is hard to deny and I liked that the film had the sense of meditation about it, about someone reflecting on a situation but in a rather poetic way. The problem is though that, like a lot of art, somethings will work for you but not for the person next to you – sometimes you can connect and sometimes you can't. For me personally this film didn't make that connection even after a few watches over it.

I did enjoy it for the feel but without the substance hitting home, it started to feel empty and a bit sprayed-on as a tone. It doesn't really get to the point of superficiality but for me I had to leave the film feeling like either I was missing something or it was, but struggling to say which it was. If the material speaks to you then the package will make it a great overall experience in short form, however if it doesn't (as it didn't with me) then the downside of the beautiful packaging is that it really just feels like this and not much more.
