Quotes

  • Auggie Anderson : You all right?

Annie Walker : I saw a man get killed today. I lied to a Federal Agent. I was shot at.

Auggie Anderson : Or as we call it, "Thursday at the Agency."

Annie Walker : [scoffs, shakes head]  Asset entanglement, evasion techniques, deception. These are all words they use in training. They make it... sound so clinical. But... it's not. It's... it's messy and it's dangerous.

Auggie Anderson : It is messy. And it can be dangerous. But you're doing it well. Now... it's Miller time. Happy hour at the tavern.

Annie Walker : A drink? That's your solution?

    Auggie Anderson : Oh, absolutely.

  • Annie Walker : Everyone here is so young.

Auggie Anderson : There was a hiring freeze that was unfrozen after 9/11. Fifty percent of the agency has five years' experience or less.

Annie Walker : That's both... inspiring and weirdly unsettling.

Auggie Anderson : You'll find this is a weird place to work. Polygraphs every year, no cellphones allowed inside the building, no dating foreigners. In fact, the CIA highly encourages dating within the Agency. Keeps things within the circle of trust. It's like a Club Med without the free drinks.

  • Polygrapher : You told us in your vetting interview that your last serious relationship ended two years ago.

    Annie Walker : Yes.

Polygrapher : And you met abroad?

Annie Walker : Yes. In Sri Lanka. I was backpacking, he was teaching English.

    Polygrapher : That's impulsive.

Annie Walker : Is that a question?

Polygrapher : Did you love one another?

Annie Walker : Yes. We were in love.

Polygrapher : The sex was good?

    Annie Walker : It rocked.

  • Auggie Anderson : [getting a whiff of Annie's perfume]  Jo Malone grapefruit?

Annie Walker : Am I wearing too much perfume?

Auggie Anderson : No. No, it's very subtle. A lot of the ladies around here lay it on so thick, it's like they're chumming for hammerheads.

  • Stas : [hotel lobby, young man with foreign accent]  Would you like anything? I could get the waiter for you. Tea? Coffee? Glass of wine?

    Annie Walker : It's 11:30 a.m.

    Stas : Something stronger, then?

Annie Walker : [they share a laugh]  I'm good.

Stas : Perhaps we could get a drink later. A nice Cava.

Annie Walker : Cava? You're from Spain?

    Stas : Si.

    Annie Walker : Valencia?

    Stas : Madrid.

Annie Walker : Unfortunately, I don't think I can get a drink with you.

Stas : Mm. Your mother warned you not to date foreign men, huh?

Annie Walker : Something like that.

  • Annie Walker : Stas is still out there.

Joan Campbell : Stas is dead.

Annie Walker : It doesn't add up. The bad intel, the way he was hitting on me, the fact that he stood near a window.

Joan Campbell : Is that all?

Annie Walker : And I was followed home last night, high speed tactical pursuit...

Joan Campbell : I know. That could have been the FBI, it could have been an unstable boyfriend, it could have been us.

Annie Walker : Was it you?

    Joan Campbell : No.

Annie Walker : I knew it.

Joan Campbell : Annie, this is all circumstantial. Get off the grassy knoll.

Annie Walker : Stas was born and raised in Moscow. The guy I met with, used the word 'kiitsu'. It's an Estonian word, no Russian would ever say that.

Joan Campbell : Did you discuss this with your professor?

    Annie Walker : [hesitates]  Yes.

Joan Campbell : To discuss any aspect of what we do with anyone outside of this building, is not only a flagrant violation of your oath, but it could put your country in danger.

    Annie Walker : I'm sorry.

Joan Campbell : Gather your things. Go back to the Farm. At this point, you're gonna be lucky if you get a desk job in HR. You may have been washed out of the entire program. Dismissed.

    [as Annie hesitates, sharply:]

    Joan Campbell : Dismissed.

  • Annie Walker : Where do I fit in?

Joan Campbell : You've been assigned as Stas' handler. You'll go to the hotel room where we have him, wait for his call, and... bring this.

    [hands over device]

    Annie Walker : A BlackBerry?

Auggie Anderson : That is a dedicated two-way encoded transponder that only looks like a BlackBerry. He has one, you have one.

Joan Campbell : You hot-synch the devices in the room. He gets the bank codes for his payment, and you get the intel. And that's it. Don't have a drink with him. Don't sleep with him.

Annie Walker : You think I'd sleep with him?

Joan Campbell : I think he'd sleep with you.

Annie Walker : [frowns]  Did you call me in because I speak Russian?

Joan Campbell : Yes, and you can also pass for a call girl.

[Annie widens her eyes in surprise]

Joan Campbell : We want to make it look like Stas is here to buy guns and party, not sell secrets to us.

Annie Walker : I'm surprised there was nobody already here who could do that.

Joan Campbell : There was. She's gone. Let's leave it at that.

[about to go, has one last thing to say:]

Joan Campbell : If you don't want the assignment, we can send you back to the Farm.

Annie Walker : No. No, I'm here. I can do it. I... do... do I have to wear, like, a... costume?

Joan Campbell : Hookers in D.C. are pretty conservative. What you're wearing now is fine.

[hands over file, goes off, leaving Annie at a bit of a loss]

  • Annie Walker : I still have a month of training left.

    Base Commander : Now!

  • Annie Walker : Do you know who sent me here? I was just looking for some clarity.

Joan Campbell : Clarity? You're in the wrong business, sweetie. The better question might be, why do you wanna be here? The CIA is not an easy place to be a woman.

Annie Walker : I can handle a competitive workplace.

Joan Campbell : Well, you're gonna be outnumbered four to one. Outnumbered by men who will hold the door for you, call you ma'am, and know how to fix a tire. But clarity, honesty? That's another story. How much do you know about the Domestic Protection Division?

Annie Walker : I... actually never heard of it.

Joan Campbell : Good. That's the way we want it.

  • Vincent Rossabi : Let me ask you this. Why did you come back? And don't give me the, uh, 'good girl' rap.

Annie Walker : [bending down in front of him, causing him some uncertainty, then picking up the pair of designer high heels from the floor]  For these. Christian Louboutins don't come cheap.

  • Annie Walker : There's one more thing you should know.

Vincent Rossabi : [FBI agent]  Really? And... what is that?

Annie Walker : [still pretending to be escort agency girl]  We are extremely discreet. We have a number of federal employees and civil servants on our client list.

    [naughty wink, whispers:]

Annie Walker : I'm just putting that out there.

[her finger lightly stroking his hand]

Vincent Rossabi : [stammers]  Let me get this straight. You're propositioning me during an interrogation?

Annie Walker : You see, you keep using all those clinical terms, and it's dampening the mood.

    [abruptly breaking off contact]

Vincent Rossabi : [as phone rings]  I'll be back.

  • Vincent Rossabi : [returning]  I just got a call from my boss' boss. A man I've never talked to in my entire career, just called me.

Annie Walker : [sweetly]  Congratulations. You must be doing a good job.

Vincent Rossabi : A man I've never talked to, told me to release you and your friend.

Annie Walker : Maybe your boss' boss is a Gold Circle client.

    [raises her eyebrows playfully]

Vincent Rossabi : Okay. Here's what I think. I think you both work for the Agency.

    [she feigns ignorance]

Vincent Rossabi : No, I know, I know. You don't know what I'm talking about, right?

Annie Walker : I was gonna say you don't know what you're talking about.

Vincent Rossabi : Okay. You work for the CIA.

    [she laughs]

Vincent Rossabi : Yeah. You work for the CIA and you should be sharing information with us anyway. Somehow you got involved with this Russian guy. And instead of working with the Bureau, you decided to go it alone. Only, you got caught. And now, some shadowy superior who goes to the Metropolitan Club with our director, has got to call to get you released.

Annie Walker : The operative word being "released."

    [sweetly:]

Annie Walker : Can I go?

Vincent Rossabi : [sighs, has to give in]  Yeah, you can go.

    [scowls down at her]

  • Annie Walker : [in subway station, forced to go along at gunpoint]  Let's think this through. The CIA loves to negotiate. I... I could shepherd you into Langley myself.

Stas : [gun in her back]  Keep walking.

Annie Walker : I knew that Spanish accent was off. You're getting sloppy.

Stas : I promise you, I'll work on that. After you're dead. Get down on your knees.

    [cocks gun]

  • Vincent Rossabi : Now tell me, what is a call girl doing in a D.C. morgue?

Annie Walker : [thinking fast]  Paying my respects.
