Stefan Popescu's second feature is an absorbing study of self, identity, the nature of love and raw sexual desire. Emotionally ravaged and haunted by tragedy in Australia, Sarah leaves her pain behind and searches for artistic inspiration in the snow and ice of small-town Canada. Her project is to create a series of films depicting nudes, and Lyndsay seems the perfect model. But, as the project develops, so the emotional intensity of the work has ramifications for all concerned. Popescu locates his film against the vast landscape of wintery Canada, a sharp contrast to the Australian summer heat that mirrors the transformations undertaken by the protagonists. Working with unknowns and enthusiastic amateurs, the director crafts an immediacy and authenticity which propels the narrative to its climax.
