A dolly couldn't be obtained for production, so other options ranged from a wheelchair to a home-made rig which had cinematographer Brian Stevenson dangling out the side door of a mini van.
The underwater scenes were shot in a friend's pool in South Jersey on an extremely cold September night. Actors could only be in the water for moments at a time, so footage had to be re-used while editing.
The film was inspired by the personal experiences of the director and many of his teammates he graduated high school with.
