A wonderful documentary the opens your eyes to the struggles refugees are facing across America. This film not only sheds light on the tragic lives refugees have left behind, but also puts resettlement agencies in the spotlight by honorably showcasing the lack of support they are providing. While these agencies may look down upon Nickel City Smiler for portraying the insufficient job they are doing, the film gives way to a conversation that must be had for change to come. Something must be done and this film is the beginning. While Nickel City Smiler focuses primarily on the Karen refugees in Buffalo, its message holds true to all refugee populations. A must see!
