Gripping if a little far-fetched

Warning: Spoilers
As this second episode of a two-part story begins Kurt has found the computer belonging to the computer expert who died of dengue fever but he has no idea what the machine is doing and neither does anybody on the local force. Martinsson recommends bringing in CID from elsewhere but Kurt has a more radical idea; he employs a hacker who has just got out of prison! She can't find much either, just the word 'KREE' and the fact that the police computer system is not secure, what KREE means is a mystery though. As the investigation proceeds the criminals always seem to be one step ahead leading to the shooting of the boyfriend of the girl who was killed in the previous episode and putting Kurt in great danger too. Things aren't helped by Kurt's diabetes and bad feeling in the office especially when Martinsson, who feels aggrieved that Kurt didn't write him a letter of recommendation as promised, tells his boss about Kurt's illness.

While the plot about computer hacking seems very far-fetched the story was gripping enough that it didn't matter, it also had a twist that I didn't see coming but I won't spoil here. Rolf Lassgård did well again in the role of Kurt Wallander; he is very different to later actors Krister Henriksson and Kenneth Branagh. It makes a change to see an over weight diabetic character running around rather than the usual ultra-fit Hollywood type.
