Red Faction: Armageddon starts some time after Red Faction Guerilla, and with a new Mason: Darius Mason, the grandson of Alec and Samanya Mason. The struggling colonists have been driven underground by earth forces led by Adam Hale, the Edf cultist leader. He is hell-bent on seeing the destruction of the Mars colony and will even destroy his own forces to achieve it. Darius, has, of course, been thrust into the thick of it.
Upon opening a disused mining shaft, Darius finds a long lost chamber deep underground. Unwittingly, Darius soon realises that he has removed an ancient seal that had been sealing the entrance/exit to this underground colony, and it will come as no surprise that our hero has now unleashed complete and utter mayhem. Coincidentally, Darius comes to the conclusion that he has - although accidentally - inherited his family’s reputation, one where his own people...

The fourth game in the Red Faction franchise, Red Faction Armageddon takes place 50 years after the previous game and after the events of the recent Syfy TV movie Red Faction: Origins, and sees players take control of Darius Mason, the grandson of Martian Revolution heroes Alec Mason and Samanya, the main characters of Red Faction: Guerrilla, as he tries to “reclaim cultist fortifications on the disaster-ravaged surface of the planet and defend colonists from hostile Martian creatures” apparently. I wouldn’t know, I skipped all the story-based cut scenes to get straight to the good stuff – blowing shit up and believe me, you can do that in spades!
Yet another third-person shooter, Red Faction Armageddon has one feature that the majority of Fps games do not – fully destructible environments. This game goes further than any other in terms of how much of an impact players can have on the in-game...

Last week, we brought you updated news about the partnership between television network Syfy and gaming giant Thq to develop games and television projects that coordinated with each other. Saturday’s Syfy Original Movie Red Faction: Origins, based on the Red Faction gaming frachise by Thq, and this week’s release of Thq’s Red Faction: Armageddon for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 is the first of what many hope will be a string of collaborations.
Hot on the heels of those releases comes the announcement by Syfy that another, similar development project going with Trion Worlds has now produced a playable (at E3, behind closed doors, but still) game that will be truly interactive with a television series. It’s called Defiance, and will be an open world Mmo on the gaming side, and a Syfy series on the television side. I’m excited about the television side because the...

On Saturday, SyFy Channel aired the premiere of "Red Faction: Origins," a made for television film adapted from the popular Thq game franchise. Honestly, the movie wasn't half bad; especially compared to the usual game-to-movie adaptation schlock (paging Mr. Boll). The movie was born from a recent partnership between Thq and SyFy, which also spawned a television adaptation of the publisher's "de Blob" games.
According to Thq executive vice president Danny Bilson, there's more movies on the way.
"We think it's a really effective way to sort of expand the stories of our games," Bilson told me this morning. "I can't tell you exactly what those adaptations are yet, because the game hasn't been announced yet. There's another one that's not with SyFy, and then there's another motion picture that will probably be announced in a couple months."
Hmm. So this upcoming adaptation of a yet-to-be-announced title isn't through SyFy?...

Director: Michael Nankin.
Writers: Paul De Meo and Andrew Kreisberg.
SyFy's Red Faction: Origins premiered Saturday, June 4th, with a second showing Monday, June 6th and there is also an upcoming DVD release of this title, August 30th. The launch of this film almost coincides with the release of the latest Red Faction game, titled Red Faction: Armageddon, which can be unpacked June 7th. So obviously, there is some cross promoting occurring between the SyFy Channel and Thq. The film itself is an exciting, action paced thriller, set on Mars. Twenty-Five years previous to the show's main events, a group of socialists fought for freedom, against the Earth Defense Forces. However, the battle still rages on, as Red Faction, led by Alec (Robert Patrick) and Jake Mason (Brian J. Smith), must battle marauding tribes and the remnants of the Earth Defense Forces, now called The White Faction.

I recently had the opportunity to interview actress Danielle Nicolet, who plays Tess De La Vega in the Syfy Channel Original Movie Red Faction: Origins. The film premiered on June 4 at 9 pm, and is the first film based on the successful Red Faction video game franchise. The newest game, Red Faction: Armageddon, arrives in stores on Tuesday, June 7. Check out the trailer Here.
Red Faction: Origins is set twenty-five years after the events of the popular 2009 Red Faction game Guerrilla, and follows Jake Mason (Brian J. Smith), the last remaining son of protagonist Alec Mason (Robert Patrick). Jake discovers that his sister Lyra (Tamzin Mechant), who was kidnapped 12 years ago, is still alive, and he sets out to save her.
Nicolet and I spoke breifly this afternoon and she revealed what interested her in the role of Tess, what her favorite video games are and more.

She stars in an action movie. We asked her smart questions.
Danielle Nicolet, otherwise known as "Reese" from Stargate: Sg-1, has won Emmy awards for being funny on The Starter Wife, and watched the downfall of Cuba Gooding Jr.'s career in the sci-fi thriller Ticking Clock. Now she's starring in the video game straight-to-tv/DVD adaptation of video game Red Faction: Origins. In it, she plays toughy Tess DeLaVega and - get this - Robert Patrick is in it. We love him!
Nicolet as Replicator Reese on "Stargate"
Nicolet does get recognized for playing an evil bitch on Stargate, mostly by angry Stargate nerds who will approach her in the supermarket to tell her just how much they hate her.
Tess DeLaVega, Danielle's character, is part of an intricate back story to the Red Faction video game series.
"In short, it's basically Deadwood on Mars," she says of the plot.

Red Faction: Origins premieres tonight (Sat. 06/04 - 9/8c pm) on SyFy as a SyFy Channel Original Premiere. It is apparently set between the events of the Red Faction: Guerilla and Red Faction: Armageddon games. I don’t know anything about the newer Red Faction games, but I have to say that I’m actually kind of excited and intrigued about this idea. I don’t get around to experimenting with too many contemporary video games, even though I appreciate them in theory, but I did get hooked playing Red Faction II on GameCube with my girlfriend many years ago. We couldn’t afford an Xbox to play Halo, so we tried RF2 out and ended up having a lot of fun with it. We still quote from Sopot’s propaganda speech sometimes, which could be heard everywhere in the game being constantly broadcast on a public address system in the background.

Warning! (Or, Good News! depending on your point of view). The next Syfy Original Movie is not about a monster or a cataclysmic event. It’s a movie based on the Red Faction video game series, and it looks really promising, so mark your calendars: Red Faction: Origins will be airing this Saturday, June 4, at 9 pm. On May 31, Syfy hosted a Q&A panel with four of the principals from the movie. During the panel, stars Brian J. Smith (Sgu) and Kate Vernon (Battlestar Galactica), director Michael Nankin (Caprica, Battlestar Galactica) and executive producer and writer Andrew Kreisberg (Fringe, Warehouse 13) shed light on the production, and what might be in store for the franchise.
Those who love the Red Faction games will be relieved to know that writer Kreisberg had played Red Faction: Guerrilla, and jumped on the chance to write this movie when approached by Syfy.
Troy Rogers from Deadbolt.

Andrew Kreisberg wrote the screenplay for this weekend.s Syfy movie, Red Faction: Origins, based on an idea from Thq, creators of the popular video game. The story takes place between the previous video game, Guerilla, and the upcoming Armageddon and features Jake Mason, the son of Alec Mason, and father of Darius Mason, the respective leads in the two games. Andrew is also currently the co-executive producer of Warehouse 13, one of the most popular series on Syfy, and previously served in a similar role on Fringe and The Vampire Diaries. Andrew recently took the time to sit down with MediaBlvd for an exclusive interview in which he discussed the upcoming movie, and the challenges of developing a new entry, albeit in a different medium, for an existing franchise.

Brian J. Smith got his big acting break coming into the Stargate franchise.s third installment, playing Lt. After Stargate Universe, which recently aired it.s final episode, ended, Brian found himself in Bulgaria filming another entry into an existing franchise, this time with Red Faction: Origins, which airs on Syfy this week, and may potentially lead to an on-going series. Brian is Jake Mason, the lead of the film which is directed by Battlestar favorite, Micheal Nankin and which also stars Kate Vernon and Robert Patrick. The movie is set in the universe of the Red Faction series of video games, and takes place after Guerilla and before the events of the upcoming Armageddon. Kate Vernon captivated sci fi fans with her portrayal of the broken Ellen Tigh, the wife of number two, Col. Saul Tigh, on the re-imaged Battlestar Galactica. In the final episodes though, her star was set as an Icon in the sci-fi universe when it was revealed that Ellen was the hidden fifth Cylon, somewhat the leader of the previous race of human/robotic inhabitants of a distant Earth who gave birth to the human like Cylons who were the protagonists of the series. Now Kate returns to the Syfy family as a lead in this weekend.s movie, Red Faction: Origins, based on the popular video game series. Her character is another strong woman known as The Matriarch, and plays an important part in the movie.s major plot development. The film is being hailed as a potential backdoor pilot, which may spin off a new series for the cable network.

To start with the good news, Sasha Roiz will be back on TV every week this fall. His new show, Grimm, has been picked up to series by NBC. Spoiler TV has the first still from the pilot, which was written and exec produced by David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf, and we'll probably get more details about the show after the upfronts. For now, here are the basics, from TV Line:
A fantastical drama, Grimm stars David Giuntoli (Privileged) as a detective whose mission is to protect humans living in a world where Grimm’s Fairy Tale characters actually exist. Silas Weir Mitchell (Prison Break), Sasha Roiz (Caprica) and Kate Burton also star. The bad news from NBC is that 17th Precinct didn't make the cut. Not much to add that hasn't been said at the Battlestar Blog.
David E. Kelley's take on Wonder Woman hasn't been picked up either.

The first-look trailer for SyFy's Red Faction: Origins has fallen to Earth, so no need to get your ass to Mars to see it!
Origins, which debuts on SyFy June 4th, bridges the gap between Red Faction: Guerilla and the upcoming Red Faction: Armageddon and stars Robert Patrick (Terminator 2) as series' protagonist Alec Mason, and Kate Verson (Battlestar Galactica) as "The Matriarch" of the series' Marauders. I suppose I shouldn’t say original, as the film is based on the popular video game series. And while I haven’t played the game, I’m pretty sure it’s a lot cooler than what we have here. “Red Faction: Origins” is typical SyFy malarkey, dressed to the nines in cheap CGI and wonky acting. Will I watch it? Of course I will. However, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if fans of the franchise were up in arms over this one. Here’s a quick synopsis: Twenty-five years have passed since Alec Mason (Robert Patrick) led the Martian Colonies to freedom …and 12 years since vengeful enemies killed his wife, kidnapped his daughter Lyra (Tamzin Merchant), and left a broken hero in their wake. But hey, let's start with Paula Malcomson meeting Detective fka Moustache (Corey Stoll).
Paula guest starred on Law & Order: La last night, in episode 1x12, "Benedict Canyon." It was a prominent role too, but for some reason she wasn't in the previews or in the Bts featurette I watched over the weekend. Either way, the episode is now available on Hulu. Check it out if you get a chance.
Also available, a new story in the Caprica: Season 2 series: "Gara Singh: Alley of Darkness," by Dóra Kecskés. Hit the link to read it.
Leah Gibson and Zak Santiago are working on a new web series, The True Heroines, a sci-fi drama set in 1951 that "follows the lives of three women who not only share daily tea, but a secret they can't share with anyone but each other." For more details and to see the promotional photos, head over to the show's site,...

Now that SyFy has officially announced a release date of June 4th for their TV movie sequel to the Red Faction video game series, gamers everywhere would be a remiss without just a taste of what's to come for Alec Mason.
Speaking to the press after the announcement, the cast and crew of Red Faction: Origins had a few key bits of info on the series, including whether or not Syfy might pick it up to series.
Terminator 2 star Robert Patrick will pick up the role of Alec mason, the hero of Red Faction: Guerilla, but appears in the film somewhat older and grizzled as his son Jake (Brian J. Smith) takes center stage. Origins will also star Kate Vernon (Battlestar Galactica) as "The Matriarch" of the series' Marauders.
Additionally, the film's director Michael Nankin (Battlestar Galactica, Caprica) notes that the film won't exactly reach the epic scale of the games,...

Thq's "Red Faction" games have gone from surprise hit to all-out media assault in the last few years. Comics based on the IP are already out in the wild and the next piece of the multimedia puzzle will now premiere on SyFy on June 4th.
I've written previously about how the "Red Faction: Origins" TV movie will bridge the gap between "Red Faction: Guerilla" and the soon-to-be-released "Red Faction Underground." But, the cable network has only just announced the airdate for the new show. It's got a 9 P.M. Et/Pt timeslot and stars the liquid-metal Terminator himsle, Robert Patrick as an older Alec Mason.
And if you're looking for synchronicity, the two-hour movie comes out only days after the May 31st launch of the new game. Pertinent details from the press release follow:
Directed by Peabody-Award winner Michael Nankin (Caprica, Battlestar Galactica, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Red Faction: Origins...

Summer 2011 will see a number of Syfy horror-oriented series and Original Movies.
Syfy’s summer programming will include the new original series Haunted Collector, premiering Wednesday, June 1 at 9 p.m. (Et/Pt), in which a family of paranormal investigators hunt down haunted items bedeviling their owners. The second season of Haven (based on a Stephen King story) starts up Friday, July 15 at 10 p.m. (Et/Pt). Last season, when FBI agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) arrived in the town of Haven, Maine on a routine case, her knack for unraveling mysteries proved an asset when she discovered that the seemingly sleepy town was, in fact, a longtime refuge for people with supernatural afflictions. Now, in Season Two, Audrey must not only stay on top of Haven’s many afflictions, but also solve her most challenging case yet: the secret of her own lost past and its ties to Haven. Ghost Hunters International debuts Wednesday,...

It's no secret that SyFy Original pictures are occasionally so bad that they're hilarious, and usually just so bad that they make eyes bleed, but their list of upcoming films for the next year truly has some gems. And by gems, I mean some of the descriptions are funnier than they are sad. Here they are, ranked from suck to blow.
Roswell -- June 2012 - The story selected by fans for Syfy and IGN.com's B Movie Mogul project, 65 years after the original UFO crash at Roswell, another ship from the same far-off civilization comes to rescue their downed comrades - and continue their preparation to invade the earth. Directed by Jason Connery (Area 51, The Devil's Tomb). A production of After Dark Films.
How intriguing, a description that could equally describe at least 300 other movies. At least Will Smith isn't in it this time.

Syfy has now scheduled "Red Faction: Origins", based on the "Red Faction" video games to air in 2011, starring Robert Patrick ("Terminator 2") as hero 'Alec Mason', who leads the 'Martian Colonies' to freedom — only to see his enemies kill his wife and kidnap his daughter.
Actor Brian J. Smith ("Stargate Universe") plays Alec's son, 'Jake', who discovers that his sister (Kate Vernon) is still alive, but now a soldier determined to destroy the 'Red Faction'.
Inspired by the movie "Total Recall", the original "Red Faction", first-person shooter game was released in 2001 for the PlayStation 2, Microsoft Windows and Macintosh by Thq and Volition.
A version for the Nokia N-Gage was also developed by Monkeystone Games.
The premiere feature of the game is its 'Geo-Mod' (geometry modification) technology, providing destructible environments, allowing the player to destroy certain sections of the scenery in the game.
