Asian sword-and-sorcery

Frankly speaking I've binge-watched this strange fairy tail like a guilty pleasure and I was really impressed. It has beautiful visuals and unforgettable OST, clever plotting, interesting combination of power struggle, magic and exotic mythology, romance etc. It could have been a real masterpiece.

But the show has some problems. The lead actor broke his leg when making stunts and that's why (and because of other problems) they had to shorten the drama with a litle bit strange galoping ending looking like a trailer.

Another problem is miscast: as for me I can't watch mature actors playing young characters. All this looks like a 1950s' movie. Particulary the actress playing Kiha is bad with her overweight and bags under eyes. The lead did a very good job, his smile is magnetic, it is a hard task to play a goodie and not to make him dull but he is also old. A younger actor may have coped with all these stunts without injuries.

Also the mythological pathetic flashback in the 1st episode is too long, some viewers loose patience and skip it. Don't do it, it merely explains why the characters receive thier karmic payback later. From the 3rd episode the pacing gets thrilling, from there up to 22nd episode the story arc is very good.

A masterpiece

I have just discovered this TV show and I just couldn't stop watching it till the end. It is a true epic masterpiece that has you completely fascinated. It has everything one may need in watching this kind of series: both funny and sad moments, amazing fighting scenes, great actors, amazing script, mythology, friendship and true love. And the soundtrack is also exceptional. I just wished that I could see more of Damdeok and Sujini in the last part of the series, and I think this is one of the rare times I cried at the end and also every other time I re watched the episodes. Because the truth is that this is one of those shows that you can watch over and over again, never get tired of it and still watch it every time like it is your first time. Absolutely amazing masterpiece. It is worth watching again and again and again and again.

probably the last good fantasy show You yet have to watch

As far as I know this was the most expensive Korean production with 50 000 000$ budget. It contains incredible special effects(made by the same company responsible for special effects in Lord of the Rings). The story is based on Korean mythology, which isn't largely known, yet.

This is a wonderful Korean series telling step by step a tale of four guardian gods who protect the king, who is for-told to come and unite the Joshin Land. There are of course bad guys out there represented by successors of the Tiger tribe, who unexpectedly want to rule the world.

Legend of the four gods will surprise You with its captivating characters, who grow old as the show goes on, fall in love, fight, win and loose.

Behold as this is probably one of the last good shows which was hiding from You.

If only they cared....

An okay first half followed by a significantly worse second half but that wasn't enough as it fumbled the landing even harder. The drama massively under-delivered on the ending and everything it was building up for 24 episodes. The most laughable aspect of the ending was the antagonist, he was shown as a powerful big threat just to be dealt with in the most comical way possible at the end. The fantasy elements were passable with nothing outrageous other than the messy introduction. I certainly don't miss Bae Yong Joon, kinda under-delivering on his role as the main protagonist. Meanwhile, Lee Ji Ah earlier carrier was much more interesting and enjoyable than her latest roles.
