Novelty Act
A lot of these early Vitaphone shorts consisted of vaudeville acts, some of them quite interesting. This one, starring Frank Whitman falls somewhere in the middle -- you can see him filling in for a few minutes in front of the curtain while the stage hands are changing the scenery, but the novelty of the act quickly palls as he demonstrates that he can replace a standard violin bow with a variety of objects.
His playing is more than adequate and his patter is decent, but unless he had other talents, his career was marked as severely limited. As this may be his only credit -- the IMDb lists a Frank Whitman with a single credit in 1913, which may or may not be this individual -- it seems likely that he disappeared from the stage to a life elsewhere.
