Detective Jeb Pyre reassures Mrs. Brady they will get her husband back to her faster than she can say "Lamanite" three times fast. According to the Book of Mormon the "Lamanites" were a group of people that left Israel around 600 BC and settled in the Americas and from which Native Americans are descended. This remark was possibly an inside joke alluding to Pyre's partner, Bill Taba, a Native American.
Joseph Smith's final words, "O Lord my God," were part of the Masonic Grand Hailing Sign of Distress, "O Lord, my God, is there no help for the widow's son?" According to Masonic code, any Mason upon hearing another Mason utter this distress call is obligated to come to his aid. Most who knew Smith believed this was an attempt to save his life and those of his friends by calling out to Freemasons in the mob. However, his cry was cut short as he was shot multiple times before plummeting out the window.
