Rob Lieber, the writer of the latest Karate Kid movie that is currently in production, has signed with UTA for representation in all areas.
The writer was previously at Verve. That agency, however, underwent an internal battle amongst partners that went public, leading to the ouster of one of the founding partners. Several literary clients were caught in the brouhaha’s wake, with UTA picking several of them up in the last month or so. The agency previously signed comics author and screenwriter Brian K. Vaughan and Masters of the Air co-creator Jon Orloff.
Lieber made a name for himself in the studio family space, with producer credits in Sony’s hit live-action/CG hybrid Peter Rabbit as well as Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, both released in 2018, and Disney’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, which starred Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner.

The project marks his return to the franchise, having previously portrayed the character of Dwayne in the Miguel Arteta film of the same name released in 2014.
Garcia will portray Frank Garcia, a happily married vegan chef, and father of Mia, David, and the titular Alexander. Frank clashes with his family when he refuses to modify his recipes to more traditional Mexican food even if it means missing out on opportunities.
From writer Matt Lopez and director Marvin Lemus, Alexander tells the story of 11-year-old Alexander Garcia who thinks he has the worst luck in the world. When his family sets off on a road trip to California, he’s pretty sure disaster awaits at every corner. His anxiety only increases when a family secret is revealed.

Thanks to the recent announcement that The Mandalorian will premiere on October 30th, we know that we’ll be getting a new episode of the Star Wars show’s second season every week of the month. Though at present, we don’t know any more than that.
Elsewhere, though, new episodes of ongoing series Weird But True, The Right Stuff, One Day at Disney and Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom all roll out throughout November. There are also a bunch of movies that you might want to catch when they arrive. Obviously, there will be a lot more content to come when we actually reach the month, as more is sure to be announced, but...

Mekai Curtis has been cast as a young Kanan Stark, the character played in the mothership series by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. He joins previously announced cast member Patina Miller, who will play Kanan’s mother.
The young Kanan is described as smart, driven and still naïve. Kanan’s world revolves around his mother, Raq (Miller), who raised him by herself. She is his everything. At the same time, he is beginning to get a sense of not only the world around him, but his place in said world. Kanan wants to be just like his mother and that’s the problem. He’s young and wide-eyed and doesn’t know how the hustle works. And even more importantly, his mother is not nearly as keen as he is for him to follow in her footsteps.

After holding off Annabelle’s possessed doll in a photo finish at the box office last week, Gone Girl faces a new round of challengers in what could be another tight race, this time pitting the David Fincher-Ben Affleck thriller against Robert Downey Jr., Dracula and one peeved kid. And while the field is becoming overcrowded with fall entries, the race should help continue the box office’s rebound from a dismal September.
Although it’s taken some hits from critics as a typical courtroom drama, The Judge has wattage in the form of Downey and Robert Duvall. The $50 million pic from Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow, though, could be the season’s first victim of the overcrowded field. Like Gone Girl, it’s an R-rated drama starring a comic-book movie superhero. But it lacks the public chatter of Gone Girl, and could be cannibalized by adult competition.
