A must for scuba divers
darakoper28 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Cousteau and Hans Hass were the two most prominent scuba divers in the 1950s and 60s. This is the true story of Lotte, Hans' later wife, the most influential female scuba diver of her time, perhaps even to this day. Lotte, a strikingly beautiful girl from Vienna, just finished high school and dreams of studying as well as adventure, and accepts in 1947 a job as the secretary of Hans, in the hope of becoming part of his scuba diving expeditions. Hans, old fashioned, strictly rejects the idea of a female scuba diver. He is blackmailed by the financiers of his 1950 expedition to Sudan to include her because of her beauty. It turns out that she has courage, is talented in scuba diving and underwater photography. Hans is an introvert and cannot express his feelings but he finally proposes. The TV movie mentions at the end that historically she was the main driving force in making scuba diving acceptable for women in the 1950s and 60s. Only few of the known historical facts have been changed, a few locations and dates.

Great film, mostly authentic
keilw8 December 2011
Watching the film in HD. This is a case where it makes sense.

Great film, shooting in Vienna and other places they found mostly authentic props and sets.

At least one case, where Hans Hass and Xenophon leave a Vienna hotel on Ringstraße shows them in front of a shiny golden rotating door from the 21st century. Not exactly authentic in this minor case, but the rest looks impressive and actors are also doing a good job. Some German actors don't sound very Austrian, but local stars including Harald Krassnitzer also compensate that.

A must-see for all divers and diving fans, both hobbyists and professionals.
