There is an unwritten rule with live-action TV shows that the cast members must get more attractive over time. Sometimes, this is an intentional choice meant to signal the character's growing confidence; Peggy from "Mad Men" and Elliot from "Scrubs" both certainly come to mind, with their haircuts and outfits becoming far more stylish as they advanced through their careers. Other times, the change is just the result of the actors having way more money to spend on their appearance as a result of the show's success. Suddenly, they have easy access to plastic surgery, hair transplants, expensive skincare routines, personal trainers, and nutritionists. For Rob McElhenney, this pattern was a little too played out. As he told Collider in a 2011 interview:
"I have never seen a sitcom in which the actors progressively got worse looking, which is, I think, truer to life, especially the lives that these characters lead.

“The Golden Bachelor” Gerry Turner officially tied the knot with his final rose pick, Theresa Nist, Thursday, and the live broadcast of the couple’s nuptials certainly threw “Bachelor” Nation some curveballs.
The biggest shocker was certainly Brayden Bower’s surprise proposal to “The Bachelor” alum Christina Mandrell, days ahead of the pair moving in together and just over a month after they revealed their relationship to the world.
Wedding bells are also ringing for former “Bachelorette” Charity Lawson and her fiancé Dotun Olubeko, as the pair shared they plans to get married in fall 2025.
Still, as the women from the inaugural season of “The Golden Bachelor” showed up to celebrate the couple — including officiant Susan Noles, golden carpet correspondent Kathy Swarts, guests Faith Martin, Joan Vassos and Sandra Mason, among others — the ladies kept the shenanigans going, leading to several entertaining moments.
A handful of “Bachelor” Nation royalty were also in attendance,...

Contrary to claims amplified by the candidate’s campaign, Martin Sheen says he in no way supports Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and will not be attending the politician’s upcoming fundraiser.
“I do not endorse Rfk Jr nor will I be attending his party,” Sheen said in an Instagram story post on Thursday. He followed the remark up with another post stating that President Joe Biden would be his pick for the upcoming presidential election.
“I will wholeheartedly support Joe Biden and the Democratic ticket for 2024,” Sheen wrote.

Chiming in to back Sheen up was his “West Wing” co-star Bradley Whitford, who said the claims were completely false.
“There’s a story going around saying Martin Sheen is supporting Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for president. The story is incorrect. Martin asked us to post this on his behalf,” Whitford wrote in her post.

In a lawsuit filed Tuesday, a Disney employee says she was sexually assaulted by a a former executive, and further accuses the company of covering up both that attack and a larger pattern of sexual misconduct, and then retaliating against her.
The suit names Disney, former vice president of distribution Nolan Gonzales, Searchlight and 20th Century as defendants.
The plaintiff, who is listed as a Jane Doe, says that starting in 2015, soon after she was hired, Gonzales, who at the time was an executive director, started sexually harassing her.
Representatives for Disney didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from TheWrap. Gonzales could not be reached.
According to the plaintiff, Gonzales escalated this behavior over time, “incessantly” asking her on dates. She declined these requests and says he then attempted to guilt her into accepting by implying he could help her career.

They say that one person’s loss is another person’s gain, but cinematographer Christopher Blauvelt had mixed emotions about his recent good fortune in landing the coveted director of photography gig on “May December,” the latest film from Todd Haynes. The director is known for his Oscar-nominated collaborations with longtime colleague Ed Lachman, which include “Carol” and “Far from Heaven.” Lachman, however, suffered a broken hip after a fall while shooting Pablo Larraín’s “El Conde,” and Haynes needed a new set of eyes. So he turned to his filmmaker pal Kelly Reichardt for recommendations, and Blauvelt stepped aboard the darkly comic tale of a tenacious actress, Elizabeth (Natalie Portman), infiltrating the lives of Gracie (Julianne Moore), a Mary Kay Letourneau-esque homemaker and her much younger husband, Joe (Charles Melton), who was 13 when they first got together.

Norma Barzman, one of the last surviving members of the Hollywood Blacklist, has died at her home in Beverly Hills at the age of 103, according to media reports.
Born in New York City, Barzman moved to Hollywood in the 1940s and married fellow screenwriter Ben Barzman. Looking for ways to organize around progressive politics, the pair joined the Communist Party from 1942-49.
“Hitler was invading the Soviet Union, so there was no reason to be anti-Russian. They were our allies at the time,” Barzman told the blog FilmTalk last year.
But after World War II, Barzman began to get warnings from her neighbors that her family was under surveillance, and one day heard a conversation she had with a friend days prior when she picked up the phone.
“I could hear it playing back. Then I put down the phone because I realized that my phone was tapped and I knew they were watching us,...

In an excoriating opinion issued Monday, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled against a Texas district attorney’s attempt to prosecute Netflix on bogus child pornography charges over the company’s 2020 film “Cuties.”
Tyler County D.A. Lucas Babin subjected Netflix “to a bad-faith prosecution,” the court said in its unanimous 3-0 opinion. This consituted “an injury we have already deemed ‘irreparable.'”
The court also cited First Amendment concerns, saying in part that “the state has no legitimate interest in a bad-faith prosecution. Our precedent similarly establishes that injunctions protecting First Amendment rights ‘are always in the public interest.’ Netflix has therefore shown that it is entitled to preliminary injunctive relief.”
“We end with what we expressed at the beginning,” the decision concludes. “We do not take accusations of prosecutorial bad faith or harassment lightly. Nor, absent extraordinary circumstances, are we inclined to exercise our jurisdiction in...

Following the guilty verdict in his assault trial on Monday, Jonathan Majors has been fired by Marvel Studios. And on social media, fans have a lot of thoughts about it.
It’s not only a spectacular career imposion for an actor who less than a year ago seemed headed for permanent stardom. It’s also a massive headache for Marvel and the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
And that’s on top of the fact that Majors, who continues to deny any wrongdoing, was found guilty of assault and harrassment against his ex-girlfriend. He’ll be sentenced in February and has signalled plans to appeal.
About that latter point, Screenrant writer Alisha Grauso called the whole thing “a damn shame.”

In film composing, the rule of thumb is often that animated movies are wall-to-wall music in which the composer must do a lot of the heavy lifting, while live-action films are more sparing with the music. But you can throw that out the window when it comes to Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” a three-hour movie with about two-and-a-half hours of bold and very prominent score from Ludwig Göransson.
The Swedish composer, who won an Oscar for “Black Panther,” two Emmys for “The Mandalorian” and Record of the Year and Song of the Year Grammys for his work with Childish Gambino, said he did something on “Oppenheimer” that he’d never done on a film before. “I’ve never worked on a project that is from one single man’s perspective,” he said. “You’re with him — you’re feeling his feelings, you’re seeing through his eyes throughout the whole film.

Thorpe died on Friday at a hospice facility in Alamo, California, according to his daughter Megan Feffer. Thorpe’s death resulted from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Doctors first diagnosed Thorpe with the progressive nervous system disorder in 1993.

In 1979, Thorpe started working at Industrial Light and Magic/Lucasfilm as a model maker and animatronic designer.

Millions around the world have been affected in one way or another by the great composer Leonard Bernstein's work over the decades, so it was only a matter of time before Hollywood would finally get around to ushering a prestige biopic into production with this year's "Maestro." It wasn't for a lack of trying, mind you, as no lesser names than Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, both of whom remain involved as producers, previously took their own shots at bringing this story to the big screen. That responsibility now falls on the shoulders of director and star Bradley Cooper, and it's not one he's taking lightly.
