The large rescue helicopter visible at the end of the movie is one of the last full functioning helicopters of that kind in Europe. All the screens are shot for real with only the rescue chain attached digitally to the helicopter.
The realistic snowstorm towards the end of the film is achieved by a helicopter hovering directly above the actors.
The village of Blons was entirely built for the film. This was for two reasons: First the real village of Blons nowadays look to modern. And second this opens the opportunity to destroy the village set for the scenes after the avalanche.
The radio announcements after the avalanche scenes are red from original radio transcripts and spoken by the same person who had spoken them already in 1954.
The texts the children read in the classroom, concerning the warm weather in fall 1953, are real texts written by the local children in fall 1953.
