Intriguing start.

I will forever search for dramas and mysteries in the style of Durbridge, the more complicated and baffling the better.

I've seen the pieced together film, and I must admit I don't care for it as much as I do the series, done over six parts as it was intended. The story unfolds and gets told the way in which it was intended.

In this first part we're introduced to our main character Kirby, and the beautiful intriguing Laura whom he befriends on the channel crossing.

There is enough intrigue here to hold your interest, you question Laura's strange behaviour, and wonder about Kirby's real line of work, he's the most dubious Insurance salesman I've ever seen.

The problem I have is with the two hitmen, David Gwillim and Ralph Bates look more like furniture salesmen then professional killers.

Intrigue aplenty, 7/10

Star John Gregson had died by the time this series was shown. He died of a sudden heart attack at the age of 55.

Gregson does look older and porkier. The opening scenes has him rushing around while he is getting chased by two suspicious looking men.

Gregson plays Bill Kirby, an insurance agent of some sort with a brown leather jacket. As he tries to flee from the cross channel ferry. He hooks up with Laura, a fellow passenger by helping carry her rucksack.

It seems Laura is not so put out by a middle aged man who will not leave her alone. He even ends up on her boat in the Solent. The two strange men always seem to be on their tail.

Bill needs Laura's help to get away. It also allows Bill to reveal a bit about himself to Laura.

An interesting opening, quiet action packed. It was a bit jarring from the switch to mainly filmed location footage. To the interiors on the boat, that was shot on video.

I chuckled to see Patrick Allen arrive on a plane as some sort of tycoon. In those days he used to arrive in a helicopter!
