Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland was today (22 March) cleared of domestic violence charges.
Adult Swim, the network behind the animated series, announced it was severing ties with Roiland earlier this year after it was reported that he was facing charges in connection with a 2020 incident.
Kimberly Edds, spokeswoman for the Orange County District Attorney’s office, confirmed in a statement (per Variety): “We dismissed the charges today as a result of having insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Roiland shared a statement about the verdict on social media with the one-word caption: “Justice.”
“I have always known that these claims were false – and I never had any doubt that this day would come,” he wrote. “I’m thankful that this case has been dismissed but, at the same time, I’m still deeply shaken by the horrible lies that were reported about me during this process.

Though it’s yet to launch in the UK and other parts of Europe, Disney+ has already proven itself to be a major player in North America – thanks in large part to its suite of digital content, which ranges from Marvel Studios to Star Wars and everything in between.
And much like its online peers, Disney+ is still to roll out a fresh wave of content for April 2020, beginning with Doctor Dolittle on April 1st – not to be confused with the recent remake starring McU mainstay Robert Downey Jr.
What’s more, April marks Earth Month, so you can expect plenty of eco-friendly documentaries to air via National Geographic. Indeed, it’s fair to say that the Disney+ lineup has fast become one of the most diverse on the market. From new episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars to age-old classics like Doctor Dolittle, there’s really something for everyone.

The last episode of Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon’s acclaimed sci-fi animated series “Rick and Morty” aired on October 4, 2015. Since then, fans have been clamoring for a third season, but Harmon recently told IndieWire at the Sundance Film Festival that there’s no release date yet and that they’re still deep in production. However, Adult Swim, as well as the cast and creators, have tried to tide fans over with everything from improvised mini-episodes to Claymation shorts to 8-bit versions of the intro. Now, over the weekend, Adult Swim has released another 8-bit video entitled “Jerry & Beth’s 8-Bit Virtual Vision.” Watch the trippy, retro game-inspired video below.

Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon’s animated sci-fi series “Rick and Morty” follows the high-concept adventures of an alcoholic genius scientist, Rick, and his naïve, nebbishy grandson, Morty (both voiced by Roiland). The series has garnered widespread critical acclaim for its madcap imagination, dark humor, and its existentialist perspective. Aside from their series, the “Rick and Morty” team also excel at improvisation, evidenced by Roiland and Harmon’s respective podcasts – “The Grandma’s Virginity Podcast” and “Harmontown” – and the cast’s improv backgrounds. Now, Roiland, Harmon, Spencer Grammer, who plays Morty’s older sister Summer, and writer Ryan Ridley improvise a mini-episode of the series for New York Magazine. Watch it below.

(Cbr) This time last year, hardly anyone outside of devoted fans of Dan Harmon knew anything about "Rick and Morty," the animated series from the "Community" creator and "Fish Hooks" writer/actor Justin Roiland. But much to the delight of the duo, and Adult Swim, the show premiered in December to critical acclaim, and went on to become a certifiable hit. The series centers on Rick Sanchez (Roiland), an alcoholic, sociopathic scientist who, after being missing for nearly 20 years, shows up on his daughter’s doorstep looking to move in with her and her family. He soon converts the garage into a laboratory, and begins involving his 14-year-old grandson Morty (also Roiland) in his insanely dangerous adventures. As "Rick and Morty" heads toward its second season, Harmon and Roiland took a few minutes to talk with reporters about the show’s success, and its second year at Comic-Con International (in...

Sent to stay for a summer with the great uncle, or “grunkle,” Stan, the pair soon learn that The Mystery Shack, a tourist trap house of oddities run by said grunkle, is the least strange thing the town has to offer.

The Disney Channel is planning just such an event from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, July 28, when it will be airing its Flash Forward Weekend. Every show that weekend will involve some kind of look into the future of Disney’s regular programs.
According to TVLine, things kick off on the Friday with A.N.T. Farm and will wrap up on Sunday, but Saturday will be an airing of the Dance Along edition of Teen Beach Movie, so in a way this Flash Forward...

Disney Channel — which as my sons will be the first to tell you has a penchant for unofficially “themed” weekends — is setting up seven of its shows for a “future” shock, with its first-ever Flash Forward Weekend event.
The slate of all-new, futuristic episodes kicks off Friday, July 26 with A.N.T. Farm, and wraps that Sunday. (Nestled in the middle of the time-jumping fare, on Saturday at 8/7c, is the Dance Along edition of Teen Beach Movie, which premieres Friday, July 19).
Get an exclusive first look at Good Luck Charlie‘s flash-forward episode, in which Heather Locklear’s daughter Ava Sambora guest-stars as grown-up Charlie.

Netflix recently proved that is was more than just a place to binge on past seasons of Mad Men with its original series, House of Cards. The inside-the-beltway Kevin Spacey drama was a pricey bet on how we will watch TV in the future. And by all accounts that wager, plus its upcoming resurrection of Arrested Development, has paid off. Streaming TV is on its way to becoming a legitimate contender for America’s eyeballs right along with network TV and cable. At least, that’s what Amazon’s hoping.

"Out There," the new series starting on IFC on Friday, February 22nd, is the creation of former "South Park" animation director Ryan Quincy. Aside from also being animated, it has little in common with the Trey Parker and Matt Stone series -- "Out There" is more in the vein of "Freaks and Geeks," a coming of age tale about a socially awkward trio of friends growing up in a small town who happen to be furry monster type things. The tonal similarity to the Paul Feig show is helped along by the presence of Linda Cardinelli voicing Sharla, the crush of protagonist Chad (Quincy). "Portlandia" co-creator Fred Armisen, Megan Mullally ("Will & Grace"), Pamela Adlon ("Louie"), John Dimaggio ("Futurama"), Kate Micucci ("Raising Hope") and Justin Roiland ("Fish Hooks") round out the cast. IFC's made a full episode -- "A Chris By Any Other Name" --...

The cable channel also announced that Ryan Quincy -- the show's creator and a two-time, Emmy-winning animation director and producer of South Park -- will voice the main character, Chad Stevens. Rounding out the chorus of voices: Pamela Adlon (Louie, King of the Hill); John Dimaggio (Futurama); Kate Micucci (Raising Hope, Bored to Death); and Justin Roiland (Fish Hooks). Will the new Adult Swim ‘toon, Rick and Morty, become the next Futurama? First thing’s first! What is Rick and Morty?
Well, the better question is this one: Who are Rick and Morty? And the answer is this: Rick is a hugely intelligent inventor grandfather and Morty is his not so brilliant grandson. The cartoon is the brainchild of Dan Harmon.
Harmon created the popular comedy show Community, and he was executive producer of the NBC series until he was unceremoniously dismissed. I don’t know all the ugly details, but it didn’t seem to be peaceful transition, agreed to by all sides. There was some displeasure on the part of network executives over some of Harmon’s behavior. When he was fired, Harmon appeared non-to-pleased by the change. But, you know the old saying. When one door closes, another opens. Harmon’s new door is Rick and Morty.

Community creator Dan Harmon is returning to TV: Adult Swim has given a 10-episode order to his animated series Rick and Morty, which revolves around the exploits of a gifted inventor and his not-so-gifted sidekick grandson. Harmon — the former Community showrunner who is also developing sitcoms at CBS and Fox — created the show with Justin Roiland (Disney Channel’s Fish Hooks).

Disney Channel’s Jessie has scared up something special for its Season 2 premiere (airing this Friday at 8:30/7:30c) — a Halloween-themed installment that turns the title character into the nanny from hell. (Er, make that heck, kiddies!)

In “The Whining,” Jessie’s charges grow concerned that history is repeating itself after a scary old doorman tells them a building legend about a nanny who did “something terrible” to the kids in her care on Halloween — presumably something worse than not letting them watch Phineas and Ferb. How seriously do you think I take Halloween? Well, I’m fairly frickin’ anal retentive anyway, so I need to book my viewing in advance. I mean I’ll deviate from my itinerary, but I at least need a plan. I can’t be the only one out there with a stick up his ass. So this October/Halloween Season I figured we needed a little guidance. There’s too many damn channels on the cable box, no horror hosts and shit for advertising. So let me be your TV Guide… Keeper.
We won’t touch on everything and I’m sure new programming will come up as October gets itself moving. I’ll throw an update out there from time to time if a special is airing or a new programming line up is discovered, uncovered, revealed or undead. Yes, this is for cable or dish. Network TV will...

With the tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in the zeitgeist with the breakout ABC series Once Upon A Time and two Snow White movies this year, Disney Junior is revisiting the classic story with The 7D, a new animated series that has been put into production for a 2014 premiere. Described as a comedic take on the world of Seven Dwarfs in a contemporary storybook world, 7D takes place in Jollywood where Queen Delightful relies on the 7D — Happy, Bashful, Sleepy, Sneezy, Dopey, Grumpy and Doc — to keep the kingdom in order. Standing in their way are two laughably evil villains, Grim and Hildy Gloom, who plot to take over the kingdom by stealing the magical jewels in the 7D’s mine. While the names of the dwarfs are the same as in the 1937 Disney animated classic, their look is very different. The characters were designed by Fish Hooks...

Jennifer Yuh Nelson's "Kung Fu Panda 2" dominated the Annie Awards nominations, but the International Animated Film Society decided to give its highest honor -- the Best Animated Feature award -- to Gore Verbinski's "Rango." Both films are from DreamWorks Animation and they still have to duke it out at the upcoming Oscars in the Best Animated Feature Film category.
Besides the Best Animated trophy, "Rango" also collected awards for Best Editing and Writing. But Nelson, the first woman to direct a feature film animation from a major Hollywood production company, won the Directing in a Feature Production award! Yay! I'm a huge fan of animation, animated films are getting better and better. Not only is the look and animation getting ridiculously awesome, but I find that many of these animated films actually have incredibly good stories. Not all of them are good though, for example, Cars 2 and Rio sucked. It will be interesting to see who ends up taking home the awards this year. Out of the movies on the list that I've seen and liked we have Puss in Boots, Rango and Kung Fu Panda 2. I guess it's no surprises that Kung Fu Panda 2 is leading the nominations with 9. Check out the list and let us know what your favorite animated movies of the year are!

Get ready for a Phineas Ferb spinoff and or possible feature film! Deadline reports that Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh have signed separate exclusive, multi-year, multimillion-dollar deals with Disney Television Animation. The deal will allow for them to continue working on the Emmy-winning series they created and executive produce for another season. In addition, the deal officially attaches them to the Phineas and Ferb movie being developed at Disney. Povenmire and Marsh are arleady hard at work on the script. The deal gets better, it also includes a new pilot, likely a Phineas and Ferbs pinoff, and other future development for Povenmire and Marsh, who also have a piece of the franchise’s merchandising profits.
This deal was a no brainer for Disney after Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension TV movie had 7.6 million viewers in its debut this month to become the most-watched cable movie of...

Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.

If past years are any indication, Comic-Con will begin releasing its official 2011 panel schedule later today (Wednesday) with the schedule for Preview Night, Wednesday, July 20. If that happens then we can expect them to follow suit for the rest of the days, so that Thursday will see the release of the Thursday of Con schedule, etc., through Sunday.
Once the official schedules are posted these “TV and Movie Panels and Screenings Updates” will be scaled back to just the date, time, title, and location, since the rest of the information and So Much More (including comics panels, autograph signings, etc.) will be available on the Comic-Con schedule link we’ll provide. Consider this, then, the last of the extremely long posts, and hopefully we’ll be getting that official schedule soon.
